My original post took a nasty skeptical turn, so I will reattempt this post with some more pertinent data for those more serious researchers.
This event happened in 1976 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, I was 8 years old. It took place at about 10:30 PM (rough estimate). I remember walking down the stairs to get something to drink and was held captive by this object floating in the backyard. The object was a spherical silver ball that radiated an orange glow. I remember looking away and then waking up in my bed the next morning. Although the family I was staying with 'warned' me that there had been a number of unusual sightings in the air when I had arrived to stay with them, they seemed strangely disinterested when I asked them the next morning if they saw something 'floating in the backyard last night'.
Does anybody have any data concerning ufo activity in the Brampton area during the late 1970's that I can reference?
