Like most people here I love the show, but am not too keen on the commercials.

And worst of all, I'm sometimes too lazy to fast forward through them.

So how about a paid, commercial free version available for download? I'd gladly pay a dollar pr episode or 5 dollars per month. Maybe even twice that if it came with exclusive bonus content of some kind...

We've said this elsewhere. The network won't allow an ad-free version. They sell ads on the basis of it being available in the archive and podcast versions too.

However, I did propose it all over again as an income-sharing deal. Maybe if they had a piece of the action, they'd be more lenient about such matters. Remember, to the network, it's about the money. :)

On old TV signal recorders you used to be able to skip recording of commercials by detecting their tags (remember the tiny flashing square at the top left corner of your CRT ?).

Just use one of these commercial removers to splice out the commercials...

I think one of them is a resident program. Once the file is on your drive it'll offer to snip out the commercials, you can then sync your iPhone, iPad... etc. I'm actually writing one called 'chuckitout' lol

On the other hand, if I filter out the commercials I'll miss out on that awesome "You're listening to the PARACAST" jingle-promo-thingie, and that would kinda suck, lol!

I just remembered that Alex Jones does something similar, offers ad free, paid downloads, and thought that would be a nice option to have.

Well, thanks for replying, and if youll ever launch some premium paid content, an hour extra once a week or so, I'd be happy to sign up for it.

Ezechiel - you've intrigued me with talk of this commercial chopper! I shall investigate. I cannot remember if it was yourself but someone once posted a 'paracast cheat sheet' - which was basically a rough guide to the advert breaks so anyone can just fast forward with their mp3 player. Unfortunately, the advert breaks do not always follow the same exact periods but it is close most of the time - certainly worthwhile. I most certainly am a 'fast-forwarder' when it comes to commericals during paracast episodes.

I have no problem with the show having to carry commercials, it's part of the radio game etc and pretty much inescapable for any radio show that is carried by commerical stations. If only Gene had Bob Bigelow backing the show, then, and only then could it be done commercial free! But if what I hear about Bigelow is true, Gene's hands would be tied in any number of ways and the show would be beholden to any Bigelow-type backer.

Because I tend to download a new episode with about 5 golden oldie shows too, during any week, I listen to several episodes, old and new. Certain episodes are good enough to listen to again and again. The information in some is often just too much to take in over a single listen. I am still plodding my way thru the back catalogue. If I bothered loading episodes into some audio software it would be easy enough to chop out the commericals. That would be something nice, a whole pile of paracast episodes, advert free!

Alex Jones would be better if you left the commercials and took out everything he says. At least the commercials have some entertainment value for the crazy things they try to sell you.

Alex Jones has a different deal than the rest of the talent at GCN, evidently, a carryover from the time the network did offer a paid download option. The strategy has changed since then, so it's not as if we can get it -- but we're still pushing for different possibilities.
