I'm fedup with these dreams...

Hello, new to the forum and my first post. *I wanted to get some feedback regarding dream episodes that I have been experiencing. For many years (ever since I was a young kid) I have often had dreams in which I would be fully awake during the dream state - consciously aware of my physical presence, and the ability to have an action/reaction control to what ever happened.

I have personally spent a long time trying to understand the root cause of certain conscious dreams, often looking at possible areas that could have either contributed or stimulated the dream to happen. *After a lot of study, documenting dreams and some recent compelling episodes I am still stumped at why, and how they happen. I have looked at sleepwalking, stress, diet, time of year, and my general health/well-being but I still cannot find a triggering point aside from maybe previous dreams/nightmares fuelling itself as the influencing factor.

I feel a bit silly in discussing this but here it goes.

In the last 12 months my dreams have manifested to another level, which have dented my confidence during sleep/rest. When an episode happens I will sometimes encounter a creature that is either crouched in the corner of the room or hovering above me pulling me by my shoulders upwards from the bed or from where I fell asleep.

Often there is a struggle of some sort and I will disappear either into the ceiling or through the wall (seems like a void of some sort). I do not have any further recollection, but oddly the episode carries on but I am dumped back into the room from where I met the creature (I then struggle in the dream to understand what has happened, and sort of wonder around trying to wake up).

The creature that I meet is brightly illuminated, somewhat boundless, approximately 7-8 feet tall, very long arms, and has a bit of stretched lower jaw with flat eyes, and small mouth that is always open slightly like it is sucking in air or something.

The part that is most apparent is its luminosity, and when I have seen it grab me I always momentarily pause curious by its odd glow. The last encounter was in January of this year. It was a very frightening encounter as the experience was so detailed, and vivid (being pulled by the shoulders from the chair I slept in and first feeling its fingers on my shoulders pulling me upwards from behind the chair, then turning around and seeing its face with its body extended at a 45 degree angle upwards as the same direction as I was being pulled in).

Sometimes there is one, other times there is two. Another time there were two of them crouched in the corner of the room by the chest of drawers. They appeared to be wearing triangular point hooded tops, and I as floated from my bed towards them unsure initially who and why they were there, they then sprung out from their crouched positions and hovered above me pulling me upwards again. *The encounters are always so uninviting.

As far as I assume they are dreams of some sort as I have full recollection of the event from waking up after having the dream/memory. I am not undergoing any sleep paralysis as I have full motor functions (as far as I am aware). I am not also sure if this is what would be referred to as an OBE but from what I have read I do not experience any buzzing sounds, body vibrations, or see a luminous cord of some description, plus why the terror element attached to the episode.

I assume this could be referred to as a lucid dream as there is an element of imaginary occurrences mixed with what appears to be the real environment. But I am experiencing the full visual real world environment, mixed with flying, sensation plus touch and sound. *The area that is disturbing is the harsh reality of the 'real world' that I experience during the dream, and that in contrast to sometimes seeing this creature (I will treat the two as a reality check during the dream i.e.: is this just a bad nightmare or is this for real. The visual identity of surrounding objects in the room relation to the creature puts things into a visual perspective, and context).

Its difficult to try summarise a life's history of unusual dreams in a short post, but the reoccurring creature I see is the main incentive for putting this post up on here. However this is not the only reoccurring dream that I have experienced, others include people in my house, discussions with other individuals, watching people do things in other places and the list goes on. *

I suppose in short I just wanted to share this as it has been bothering me for the last year (none of my friends or family can relate to my stories and treat this as a bit of a joke in discussion), plus I feel its to dismissive to shrug this off as a simple dream don't worry about it. *

The sceptical side of me thinks if abductions are real then could they happen like I have experienced via dreams, or is the event screened as a dream and maybe real. However my assumption is this has to be a dream. Undoubtedly our mind is a powerful tool and perhaps there is a controlling mechanism that bridges the conscious gap from the subconscious dream state that allows one to awake in what appears to be a real physical environment but is still yet a fictitious. *But on the flip side at what point does a dream no longer become a dream when you can quality check things that you have seen.

Regardless the creature episodes frighten me as they are too vivid, and it drives me crazy not knowing why, or how.

Interesting story.

Ever consider installing some equipment where you sleep,(video, audio) to document yourself when having a dream? It would be interesting to have this dream then "roll back the tape" and see what you were doing.

Well my wife is a very light sleeper. As far as I'm aware I'm not tossing and turning, or sleep walking. However if I was doing anything unusual in my sleep I know she would wake me up to ask what was going on (I'm diabetic, on insulin so she is usually on guard sometimes during the night waking me up if I'm moving around in case my sugars are low).

My guess is I'm physically still while asleep.

There is an interesting episode that took place at my work which sort of provides an answer to your comment and evident that I’m not sleep walking and lay still while asleep. Back in January of this year I was getting into work very early (around 5am). The majority of office staff did not arrive until 7am so sometimes when I got in I would have a sneaky snooze for half an hour or so I had energy for the day ahead.

The way I would doze off was to pull out the bottom of my pedestal desk drawer and tilt my chair back using the drawer to rest my legs on. In our offices we have automatic light sensors. These sensors I found out through a previous napping sessions go off after 20 minutes if there was no movement.

My chair was directly beneath the sensor and on previous occasions when I dozed off if I fidgeted (like simply moving my hand or fingers) the lights on the floor would come on and subsequently wake me up, should have invested in some sort of sleeping eye covers or simply not go in that early!

Well on this occasion I dozed off, and during the experience I felt my body rising. For some reason as I rose I was initially fixated on the office ceiling tiles and noticed silly things like dirt on one tile, one slightly out of place between the frame, and the pictures hanging on the wall next to my desk. I was rising at a 45 degree angle to the floor, and I felt something on my shoulder. I turned my head to see a hand on my right shoulder, and tilted my head even further back to see what it was.

As I did that I could see the hand was attached onto a very skinny long arm and saw the face (like I have done in other dreams) of this thing that was pulling me upwards from my chair. As usual it was very brightly lit, almost as if the creature was a big light bulb or something in some ways almost like it had an aura to it. On this occasion I only saw its head and arms that were clasped over my shoulders pulling me upwards as its body appeared to be already partly submerged in the ceiling.

In the dream I panicked and was so frightened it was ridiculous. However there is a slight gap in my memory as I am remembering a struggle on my behalf but nothing else there after. Shortly afterwards I appeared back in my office right next to my chair. Initially I stood there on the office floor in my cubical area and thought man what a horrible crazy dream I had.

As I stood there the first thing I noted was it was dark and something was not right – the lights were busted or something and not coming on? So I moved forward and remember looking at peoples desks, and I was wondered I was starring at this guy’s calendar on top of his computer with dates he had pencilled in or circled. I then thought my god am I still asleep? I panicked and said don’t turn around as I did not want to see me sleeping in my chair (I always avoid looking at myself if an opportunity arises during a dream).

So I remember as a test I frantically waved my arms in the air back in forth above my head to see if the lights would come on, and I remember feeling my muscles move in my chest as I did this. However the lights did not come on and I knew I was still asleep in some sort of very bizarre vivid dream experience.

As I moved forward to explore the rest of the office floor, funny enough I tripped on a box that was near someone’s desk and when I hit the floor the shock of hitting the floor is what woke me up. As I woke up I was in my office chair and the lights came on.

I think the incident must have lasted at least 10 minutes or so, and as per most incidences I seem to meet a presence and then get dumped back into my conscious dream state from where it initially kicked off from. I was not asleep more than 30 minutes.

So after all that I know that I do not sleep walk and during what I describe as an aggressive dream on this occasion must have laid quite still otherwise the lights would have come on.

Scary stuff.

As Phantom suggested. Video your sleeping sessions. Save the videos to disk. The next time you have these dreams, play the video. You can also compare videos from nights you do not have the dreams to the ones you do.

Why guess? At least you could eliminate or confirm outside physical stimuli as well has observe your physical reaction during the dream.

Makes sense.

I for one would be interested in hearing about the results.

At the very least, you seem to be a vivid dreamer, Alex.

I had an online friend who felt he was abducted all his life, but his experiences took place during sleep too. He said he'd eventually hit on his own reality check by trying to cause himself pain. I think he would look at his hands in the "dream" and try to pinch one of them. He felt if he could feel the pain, then he wasn't really sleeping and was involved in some sort of real experience. When he couldn't see his hands or cause himself minor pain in some way, he knew he was dreaming. (A video taken while you're sleeping would show whether or not you pinched yourself in sleep.)

To try to see one's own hands involves what is often called "lucid" dreaming which can be developed over time. I've tried and don't find it easy, but I'm unaware of most of my dreams. Might be a lot easier for someone who has vivid recall of dreams.

But as I have done in this forum before, I'll recommend Robert Moss' book The Dreamers Book of the Dead. While Moss is an active dreamer and has his own views of the dream world, you might get some info and pointers from him even if you don't buy his theories.

Thank you so much for the replies and I now understand what you mean by the use of a video camera and perhaps experimenting something physical during the dream to see what my body is acting out during my sleep.

I will also look at Robert Moss (I was not aware of him previous).

Yea I think I'll check out this book as well. I'm an active lucid dreamer and am always looking for other view points.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, PA, even though I'm not sure how much stock I put into what Moss believes. The book is certainly a step out of the proverbial box which is my cup of tea.

To further confuse the issue, I found this link this morning on another board.

Wikimedia Error

While the levels of consciousness mentioned in the entry deal with the waking state alone, it may be a mistake to leave dreaming realities out of the picture, given than most (?) people meet aliens in dreams. I'm reminded that Graham Hancock met them in his trips with ayahuasca. (Forgive the spelling, please.)

That link sort of fried my brain anyway.

www.astralpulse.com, have a stab at those forums. I cant say for sure ive ever lucid dreamed ect but ive been a reader of that forum for quite some time out of pure interest. I suspect you'll get some helpful responses there to.
