A Photon of light leaves the star in which is was born, it travels trillions and trillions of miles, nothing gets in its way, not another star, nor planet or moon. It takes thousands of years.

And then one night you walk out and look up, and its journey is terminated for all time on the retina of your eyeball.

In the case of the Hubble telescope the journey can last from 10-15 billion years..... and then splat the journey is over.
 
Sol's photons are created by fusion reactions inside the Sun's core. They start off as gamma radiation and then are emitted and absorbed countless times in the Sun's radiative zone, wandering around inside the massive star before they finally reach the surface.

The Sun generated photons striking your eyeballs were ACTUALLY created tens of thousands of years ago and it took that long for them to be emitted by the sun.



A photon starting at the center of the Sun and changing direction every time it encounters a charged particle would take between 10,000 and 170,000 years to get to the surface.

Then its only 8 odd minutes to get here, and like the photons in starlight their journey ends on your retina.

As Photons go, the ones being emitted by the screen you are looking at now really got ripped off in the longevity stakes
