Well it more of a rant against does who are the richest of society, the bankers and the developers, and who are seen by the public to be getting away it.The government has been cutting money, it gave to all social services in the past and now cutting wages and applying more tax in the public sector, to pay for the bail out it gave to the banks. There is many reasons for why there is more taxes and cuts. Rising unemployment is reducing the intake and we are borrowing more to reduce the gaps that is where we stand at the moment. And the end of day he was right to say what he did, even though the green party is a party i do not follow or agree with.
 
I don't speak Korean, but I would bet there is some unparliamentary language being tossed around in this melee.

All we get out of American politicians is the occasional "You lie!".
The Green guy took off his tie and yelled an expletive. That's beautiful! Hahha.
 
He was actually defending the gov't believe it or not. The Greens are in coalition with the major party over here which is Fianna Fail. FF have been in power for 10 yrs or so, involved in a shit load of scandals and put Ireland in a position where, when the recession hit, we got fucking screwed royally. We have had to set up NAMA which means that all the toxic loans (and there are loads of them) are dealt with by this new institution. The basic idea behind this is to get credit flowing in the economy again. The european central bank are helping us out, but it looks like we're up shit creak for a long while. My children will be paying for this shit!

At the moment, we have just had a budget which cut 4bn from the country's overall spending. This is only the beginning of the clean up, and the only thing it has done is cleared some of the deficit. There will be another two or three budgets before we can start to think about 'prosperous' and 'economy' in the same sentence together.

Meanwhile, unemployment is at a record high, the public sector is threatening to go on strike, along with the Guards (police) which is illegal, and the private sector has been decimated.

We had what was called the 'Celtic Tiger' for a while, and a real chance to ensure more long term goals such as correcting institutional problems across all sorts of areas, for example the health sector. Instead, we blew it, we voted in the biggest shower of crooks.

Mr Gogarty is trying to save his own neck. Anyone in that gov't will NOT get voted in next time. He figured he had nothing to lose, probably sick of getting all the criticisms.

But I think us Irish somehow like a certain amount of misery in our lives. Maybe it stems from famine times, or from British occupation (which kind of led to the famine anyway). I'm not sure really. I don't want to diss my own country, but I always think of this yeats quote,
'Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy.'

I am not saying we're all depressed, that certainly isn't the case, but like the quote it's kind of humorous .... hard to explain really.

Anyway, enough about the land of the leprechauns!

Our Government and Governments around the world, do not speak for the ordinary working people, they never have, it's a false myth.
Governments have always been pandering to groups that have the influence and cash.
Sooner we realise that if you don't have a million or billion in your bank account, you will not be taken seriously. Power and influence have it and you can join the club. Well the rest if you can get screwed.

Well i am proud to be Irish. Every nation has individuals who will screw over the next man/ or women to get ahead. Every Country on the planet has a good bad miserable history. At the end of the day. I'm proud of my heritage and what it has achieved and not achieved. When i see wrongs, i will declare it as a wrongdoing. As for British occupation. Well my uncle was killed in a conflict for being a catholic. I'd hold no ill feelings towards the British state for his killing. The conflict that once was, an internal matter between different peoples with different backgrounds and opposing religions and the British wanted out and they couldn't. They are stuck and probably will never leave Northern Ireland ever.

As for the famine.The British Empire has Blood on it's hands. We are not alone other nations suffered under the control of the British Empire. The British have been thought a different History to us, and it more and likely British schools do not teach or tell of wrongdoings that have happened. That is life.

England today is a different nation then it once was.We have mutual respect today. Which never existed before. The famine was a terrible and even though i say that. America, England, Australia and other nations have gained from the influx of the Irish during that time.Some of the greatest people that have lived have Irish Backgrounds. There would have been no band called the Beatles had John Lennon or Paul McCarthy ancestors not left Ireland to set up home in England. It's has been said that more the half the population of Liverpool have Irish roots.

What a misery if that never happened.

People might have disdain or like for Che Cuevara the Argentine Marxist revolutionary. The little known fact is his father had Irish roots and his father name was Ernesto Guevara Lynch. I could speak to more people. The Irish do have a terrible history, but I'm of the believe those people who left our island long ago left through misery and tragedy. Created History in other countries.

I would not not say that it would have been 'a misery if it never happened' however. Creativity is bourne out of difficult circumstances. I would say taht it is what it is, for better or worse ...
