It's SCIENCE!...Really?

Very good article. I've always been suspicious of a scientist who praises the values of science, but I couldn't articulate it as good as it was articulated in this article, probably because I am not disiplined in science. I have always thought of science as a tool, but I think that these days it has become part of a belief system in some ways, like when people say that they believe in science. I just think that science is not something to be believed in. That is why I think that the whole science versus religion debate is ultimately preposterous, and serves nothing more than to undermine both the best science and the best religious thinking. Richard Dawkins is a prime example of someone who has taken up a crusade which I think is a misguided, misjudged one which is doing more harm than good. It has politicised science in a way which could make it's goal of objectivity even more unattainable than it already was. Science is not and never should be treated as gospel, and a good scientist should realise this.

I think Dawkins realizes the same thing that you do; that science, in and of itself, is not infallible. However, he's flying the standard, leading the troops into battle to force the issue. I think he's smart enough to realize that religion will always be a formidable and uniting force in this world. It's my opinion that he is attempting to put science at least on an equal footing with religion, and to open some eyes in the process. "Militant Atheism" is not militant, but it is "out in the open" and undeniable... Reason and rationality make sense. (I'm not saying that all who hold religious beliefs are not reasonable and rational...just that some of them are.)

Science, though, as a point tends to provide better and more repeatable answers than faith based thinking.

One thing that always amazes me, is when people appeal to scientific authorities, how do you know that they are telling always the truth, when science isn't a monolithic thing?

some scientists actually think man has caused the ice caps to melt... LMAO!!

Yeah, it's clearly the penguins who are to blame. And global warming is an illusion, as is everything you see, touch, smell and taste every day.

In fact, this thread is an illusion. And that I've closed it is also an illusion. Go figga.
