The Deacon of Beacon Hill
An old B&W picture of a thunderbird nailed to a wooden wall; nearby a group of men stand with arms outstretched to show the relative wingspan of the creature.

Many people (myself included) remember running across this photo. As I recall it was in one of the books I read in elementary school.

The thing is . . . even after extensive efforts have been made no one can find the photo. There's a little more information on this phenomena at:
