James Cameron VS. The Abyss

Paranormal Novice
This month, Mr. Cameron plans to plunge nearly seven miles to the planet’s most inaccessible spot: the Challenger Deep in the western Pacific, an alien world thought to swarm with bizarre eels and worms, fish and crustaceans. He wants to spend six hours among them, filming the creatures and sucking up samples with a slurp gun.

James Cameron to attempt 7-mile Mariana Trench dive | Geek.com

Express elevator to hell etc... would you go?

What if he finds something...unexpected? and does he get to name anything he discovers?

*Hopes/expects "Ripley Mega-Worm" to become a common word.

I cannot wait to see what creatures are filmed and or collected. I admire mr Camerons bravery and wish him safe passage, I hope that his expedition encourages others to explore the depths.

he is one of those ignorant idiots that think CO2 is destroying the planet but will not debate the subject or look at the actual observed science.

Oh boy, you're on a global warming rant again today. Give it up.

Lets get this out of the way:
1) No, other planets are not also warming up.
2) No, the sun’s 11 year solar cycle is not to blame.
3) No, the warming trend has not stalled, reversed, or changed.
4) No, there is no debate on whether humans are the cause. (At least, not in scientific circles.)
5) No, the warming is not a natural cause of “coming out of an ice age.”
6) No, the warming is not comparable to any previous natural warming. (It is much, much faster.)
7) No, the data set that scientists use isn’t limited to 100 (or 10, or 50, or whatever) years. And, going back farther and farther does NOT make the picture look any rosier.
97.5% of climate experts agree that the planet is warming, and that humans are the cause.
Every major scientific group of every industrialized nation agrees that the planet is warming, and that humans are the cause.
Denialists, whatever your personal pet theory is, it is NOT some obvious fact that has been overlooked by all of acadamia for the past hundred years. Before posting it here, do a little honest research on your complaint.

I'm quoting this from a comment I found here: Five shots against global warming denialism | Bad Astronomy | Discover Magazine

You can ignore it all you want, but it doesn't change the science. Defend yourself with whatever crazy Alex Jones conspiracy you want, sadly you're wrong. I wish you were right, it would be great, but you're wrong - we've messed up the planet.

Angelo your post is full of errors and pure bullshit.... and what does Alex Jones have to do with anything?

Back to Cameron's trip for a moment if I may get in this global warming discussion (ahem).

Whatever anyone thinks of James Cameron as a man or as a director, it takes balls of steel to put yourself willingly somewhere with such unimaginable pressure at the otherside of a hull (however thick!).

If someone has the money to do that trip, then I would have thought the same money could be spent on developing cameras to integrate with the sub just to film stuff. Fuck going down there! An experience yes, a unique experience, yes, a downright dangerous one? You bet!

Having served in the Navy, just stories from submariners of the boat 'settling' as it goes down to depth have me on edge! The deepest the Royal Navy will admit to going is still absolutely nowhere near where Cameron is intending to go.
I'll bet many submariners think he is stupidly brave or just doesn't know what he is getting into. Although I would have thought having made 'The Deep' (shit is that the name? brainfart) anyway, you know the film, - having made that, he would be very versed in this deepwater stuff.
Just remembered the diving scenes of Titanic too, so DOH! of course he knows. That just makes him pretty brave in my eyes.

I think it's amazing that we can go that deep. We're coming up on the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking, and I remember how exciting it was when they discovered the ship on the bottom of the ocean and what a big deal it was.

I don't think The Deep was a movie based on a book by Peter Benchley, the same person that wrote Jaws. You're thinking of The Abyss, which was a big deal.

Yes. You are of course right! Now that you say it! The Deep was a good film actually, I remember it about finding drugs in a wreck etc.
Thanks for the correction Angelo.
