Came across this, and found it entertaining. I usually don't put disclaimers up, and will probably regret doing this later (the disclaimer that is), but if you have problems with the so called N-word used, no matter the meaning behind it, maybe click something else.

depends on how you say it and to who. you are referring to a word here, not insulting anyone.

Words can be funny things,
my wife recently called someone in a US forum a "Boy", which as she found out has a similar cultural reference point to the N word. of course she used the word in the context of a boy being an immature male human, not a black one.

boy doesnt really translate that way here.

i must confess in moments of uncharitable mood, i am fond of the expression "someone should do to him/her, what they did to john lennon......."

perverse i know, but there you have it

its a strange world

i have never heard anyone use that expression. i think that is worse than calling someone a nigger.

I mentioned the meaning issue in my first post.

I don't think I am insulting anyone, but that doesn't mean someone won't be insulted.

I also mentioned I would probably regret putting up the disclaimer.

Oh it is, most unbecoming i admit

Billy Mier......"someone should do to him, what they did to john lennon".......

naturally i know that shooting people is baaaaaad, i would never actually want it to happen.

but im a flawed character and i must admit, i do use that expression now and then

after i thought about it i do not find it offensive at all. just odd. we are all flawed yet perfect.

The only reason John Lennon started acting like that, is because of Yoko Ono.

She was the epicenter of his world.

Why, I have no idea. Considering what kind of person she became after he died, I can only imagine.

The fact of the matter is, nobody has a right to NOT be offended (at least in the U.S. -- in Canada I think it may be different now). That is the by-product of free speech.

Now, if I want to be civil and remain in good standing, I would never use such a word when I knew it would offend a listener. On the other hand, if your intent is to offend someone, and the word fits -- use it -- and of course face the consequences. None of those consequences for actually uttering the world, by the way, should be legal, as stated up front. However, do know that unchecked use of offensive words and such reflect on your character, judgment, and social skills. Lacking in those areas could be grounds for dismissal from your job, appointed positions, etc... This again, is not a legal action, it is the discretion of your employer.
