John of God-Surgeon of the Rusty Knife

Free episodes:

The Pair of Cats

a.k.a Philip Deane
I originally started this thread by stating that Joao de Deus was called the surgeon of the rusty knife. As pointed out, correctly, by Facius it was in fact Arigo who was the surgeon of the rusty knife.

I have now added a clip of Arigo.

Joao de Deus (John of God)

Arigo (The surgeon of the rusty knife)

Joao de Deus (John of God) also known as the surgeon of the rusty knife.
I'd just like to add that the original "surgeon of the rusty knife", as mentioned in the homonymous book by John G. Fuller, was José Pedro de Freitas (also known as Arigô or Zé Arigô). João de Deus (John of God) appeared in the "psychic surgery" scene around 1978, when Arigô was already dead.

You are quite right Facius.
Many appologies to all. As i posted this i realised that Arigo was the one known as The Surgeon of the Rusty Knife. I tried to delete this thread and start again but you beat me to it.

I can pound a long nail straight into my head through my nose, then pull a quarter out of your ear. you should see what happens when you pull my finger!

John of God, rhymes with fraud.
People like this make me angry. Pretending magic tricks can cure you. Hopefully he doesn't cause too many people to die.

Yes it seems that Joao de Deus is quite a controversial figure. Arigo was as well although a great deal more credibility was assigned to his work. It was claimed that he healed possibly millions of people.

John. G. Fuller wrote the book -"Surgeon of the Rusty Knife".

I'm thinking record keeping and followup are not priorities with that practice.

A piece of trivia: Jim Jones used to do the psychic surgery routine for his flock, removing gelatinous cancers with his bare hands.
