Living in the past

Free episodes:

There is no Jethro Tull band any longer, just the Ian Anderson band. Anderson ditched guitarist Martin Barre and drummer Doane Perry and decided to strike out on his own with his hand picked musicians.

DaveM, I like your Stormwatch avatar.

I’d love to go up to Las Vegas to see Anderson in October. But at this point it looks in doubt. Last saw him in 2014.

The problem is Ian Anderson can barely sing these days, his voice is shot. I managed to clean up the 'Stormwatch' cover by removing the text, btw.

Probably true for many aging rock stars. I heard a couple of segments from recent Paul McCartney concerns, and that marvelous singing voice is quite raw. That's the consequence of emulating Little Richard on some songs.

In contrast, Mickey Dolenz, of The Monkees, still has pretty much the same singing voice at age 71, based on their recent album.

I heard John Fogerty with his guitar singing live on Howard Stern, and the famous voice is just perfect. He recently turned 71.

Yes unfortunately his voice has been a problem for years. Last couple of times I saw him he had a young singer doing much of the vocals while he focused of flute. It was different, but it worked. His flute has never been better.

The interview I read with Martin Barre, ex Tull guitarist said that Anderson called Barre and former Tull drummer Doane Perry into his room and told them both he was going to end the band. Barre said he suspected Anderson wanted to form his own personal band. Barre also said that the song selection was getting more narrow year after year. Anderson just couldn't sing the old songs. He wanted to tool a band to his own weaknesses and strengths.
