There is no spoon
Okay, so I was having a few beers last night with one of my mates, who doesnt disagree about the potential of the odd UFO having visited us but is a little bit skeptical and has never really looked into the whole area.

I spent about 6 pints of beers worth of my time trying to explain the Betty and Barney Hill case in great detail to him, telling him all about the missing time, the star map, the aliens placing a cup over Barney Hills Penis as-if to extract semen and the warts that appeared on is groin afterwards etc....
And at the end of the story, this is how our conversation went:

Friend: "So let me get this straight, Betty and Barney Hill had a night out which involved lots of blanked out time and lost memories, and then shortly after Barney developed some warts on his groin!?!"

:p Me "Uhhh, yeah"

8) Friend "Sounds like they got extremely drunk and went to a swingers party to me, then Barney ended up paying the consequences"

:p Me: "Thats ridiculous, they were honourable and well-known figures in their small american community!!!"

:cool:Friend: "And thats the exact reason they had to come up with the Alien story, how else would they explain it to the village doctor without word getting out?"

I then promptly told him off for speaking ill of the dead.
It just goes to show though, no matter how hard you explain things to somebody, most of the time they've already mind their mind up! And this is a guy who has actually sat and watched a black triangle fly in Devon for about 30-40 minutes!!!
Probably the funniest UFO conversation I have ever had though.

****Anti-flame disclaimer *****
Please nobody take this post personally against either them, or the lovely Betty and Barney Hill, it was just a drunken conversation that really made me laugh and highlights in a comical way some of the challenges that people face when discussing UFO's

People have preferences. Even if an explanation is really unlikely they'll take it over one that's more probable because it's too far outside of their comfort zone.

Ah I think he was just joking really because he doesnt take anything in life too seriously and we we're quite drunk. I got rather drunk again lastnight and have serious headfog... i think i need BRAINTONIC!!! (I love that name) :D
His viewpoint is that ofcourse there is intelligent life out there, and yes they may well have come to visit the planet, but there's no way to prove it and nothing we can do about it so we might as well just get on with our meagre little lives until they do finally reveal themselves.

What a boring outlook on life he has!!!:p
