Charlie Chaplin fans were seizing on the news Friday that a lost film of the comic genius had been found on eBay for $5.68.

Morace Park, who lives in Essex, England, bought the battered olive green film canister listed as "an old film" for £3.20, and found the title Charlie Chaplin in Zepped inside.

His neighbour, John Dyer, former head of education at the British Board of Film Classification, knew the legend of the lost seven-minute film that includes a Zeppelin bomb attack. Released in 1916, it was believed to be World War I propaganda to reduce fear in Britain of German airship attacks, but the film vanished years ago.

That's amazing Christopher,

I used to be in the Antique restoration busininess and when the dealers used to turn up and unload what they had bought at auction the first thing we used to do was to pull out all the drawers on on a desk or bureau for instance reach in and drag out all the dust and crap that had fallen behind the drawers over the years.

We found all sorts of goodies like gold rings, bracelets, photos even found someones will once written in beautiful script on the underside of a bureau writing slide. I said to David once that somewhere in Venezuela I bet someone has lined their drawers with newspaper and his Caracas 74 event might well surface if people took the time to look.
So my tip to everyone that goes to auctions is to do as we did and have the drawers out and you might get lucky. Oh yeah and keep an eye out for secret drawers too.
