So the non profit Mars one is planning to settle Mars in 2023 permanently. They just released their qualifications for their astronauts. Would you go to Mars on a one way trip, grow your own food, and slowly die of radiation?

Absolutely not... especially at this stage in human technological development. This kind of venture amounts to nothing less than suicide. Radiation, alienation, facing the existential shock of not having any possibility of returning to the earth and countless uncontrolled/unknown variables.

At least the european settlers of the new world had the option of going back. The only way this might happen is if the earth actually starts looking like Mars LOL

I guess it all depends on whether or not you got free cable. Somehow I don't think that a pair of rabbit ears would get good reception, and there is a conspicuous absence of parabolic dishes in that artist's rendition.
