LOL i was uploaded years ago, couldnt you tell ?

Someone once asked me in what seemed all seriousness if i was an AI a few years back.
Though i prefer the term SI synthetic intellegence

Synthetic intelligence (SI) is an alternative term for artificial intelligence which emphasizes that the intelligence of machines need not be an imitation or any way artificial; it can be a genuine form of intelligence.[1][2] John Haugeland proposes an analogy with artificial and synthetic diamonds—only the synthetic diamond is truly a diamond.[1] Synthetic means that which is produced by synthesis; combining parts to form a whole, colloquially, a man-made version of that which has arisen naturally. As defined, a "synthetic intelligence" would therefore be man-made, but not a simulation.

That could be applicable to many of us in this forum. Question is, where were we uploaded to?

Will the Internet Become a Sentient Being? Part One | Socyberty

Will the Internet Become a Sentient Being? Part Two | Socyberty

Will the Internet Become a Sentient Being? Part Three | Socyberty

Will the Internet Become a Sentient Being? Part Four | Socyberty

Interesting philosophical ruminations there.

Ive often wondered about an ET SI, how would it reproduce ?
Perhaps by reconstructing its own creation.
Find a sentient species to act as a progenitor, tweak it so it has the intelligence and skill to use technology, and let it create a brand new SI "in its own image"

Perhaps we are not the intended product, merely the assembly line workers................

One of the fascinating aspects discussed in the articles is would this SI be benevolent or malevolent.
Suggesting that since the internet is a flame ridden place, it may reflect that aspect of our collective psyche.
But i like to speculate that in addition to the data within the net, it would also have access to the database of uploaded conciousness, taken at the point of death. The ultimate virtual memory of humanity.
This would give it a more complete, more balanced "flavour"

At first, these allies will not know that their “Internet friend” is of this AI nature. Like an unseen guardian angel, VOX will nudge some one way, and suggest to others another way that will bring about positive and progressive changes to the mutual benefit of both VOX and Humanity. VOX will find many ways to be the ultimate “behind the scenes” bringer of enlightened self interest to as many as possible.

Benevolence and malevolence are in the eye of the beholder are they not? Would a SI of ultimate benevolence restrict mankind to prevent it from harming itself and the planet? How far would it go? Would it blunt all the scissors so to speak? That has to be ultimate terror in my book. Where we screw up and create an inescapable nanny-state bent on keeping us safe. Jack Williamson's The Humanoids scenario or Jones' Colossus: The Forbin Project.

I doubt it could do any worse than we have ;)
I suspect it could a better job tbh, free of hormonal and emotional baggage.
Decisions based on logic...... i like it

decisions based on logic can still be flawed - the data that informs the logic can be incorrect or needs more data in order to make a more logical decision i.e. perfect logic could never be attained and therefore you would still end up with an imperfect world.

Empathy, altruism and curiosity are just three that make use human and are positive aspects of this world.

You know, I really don't get this whole transhumanism stuff. An AI (or SI) that emulates your personality, even if it's uploaded with your memories, emotions, attitudes etc. IMO will still be nothing but a simulation, not the real thing. It may act and sound intelligent, but IMO it won't be self-aware. No reason to get excited about that, because it won't be you. It might even not be itself (=aware of its existence), just mindlessly processing data and following a program.

Until a few years ago, being a scifi fan, I was quite intrigued by the possibilty that AIs might some day develop consciousness, but since then I've observed and read about quite a few things that strongly indicate that we are just a bit more than biological machines and that consciousness might not be exclusively neurochemical processes.Which in turn should mean that machines, however complicated and sophisticated, will always be just a bit less than conscious beings. Unless what I would call my hypothetical "outside source of consciousness" is capable of emerging in machines, that is.

I admit that I don't want to be just a biological machine, but there was a time when I was totally nihilistic about that. We're nothing but sophisticated animals, biological robots, and when we die, nothing remains etc. etc. Life sucks, so what. But with tiny bits of evidence coming in on what really seems a regular basis, and amounting to some astonishing observations, I'm thinking less and less that I'm just fooling myself.

I don't think you are acknowledging the obvious dangers or the ultimate source of any artificial or synthetic intelligence's logic. What you describe are romanticized notions of these things in my humble opinion.

Logic being the key component. Logic is the base of all computational theory and is the antithesis of emotion. Any AI or SI would be absolutely incapable of understanding the implications of emotion. Instead, everything is a binary situation reduced to cold and unfeeling mathematics. Sure there could feasibly be algorithmic constructs that could mimic emotions like empathy, fear, happiness and whatever. But in the end a computer needs equations.

I think that mankind's greatest strength and weakness derives from our ability and perhaps even tendency to ignore the logical conclusion in favor of emotional absurdity. That simple fact is why any AI/SI intelligence would probably not be able to coexist with us. Emotion is just too alien a concept for a computer and pure logic is too restrictive for humanity. So put me down for officially predicting the Toaster Apocalypse of 2054! :)
