Missing People

Paranormal? In terms of finding the person or the cause?

The latter.
"Reports of missing persons have increased sixfold in the past 25 years, from roughly 150,000 in 1980 to about 900,000 this year. The increase was driven in part by the country's growing population. But the numbers also indicate that law enforcement treats the cases more seriously now, including those of marginalized citizens.
An astounding 2,300 Americans are reported missing every day, including both adults and children.
But only a tiny fraction of those are stereotypical abductions or kidnappings by a stranger.
For example, the federal government counted 840,279 missing persons cases in 2001. All but about 50,000 were juveniles, classified as anyone younger than 18."
"The National Center for Missing Adults, based in Phoenix, consistently tracks about 48,000 "active cases," says president Kym Pasqualini, although that number has been bumped up by nearly 11,000 reports of persons missing after this year's hurricanes.
In a phone interview, Pasqualini said a breakdown of the 48,000 cases reveals the democratic nature of America's missing persons.
Slightly more than half—about 25,500—of the missing are men. About four out of 10 missing adults are white, three of 10 black and two of 10 Latino.
Among missing adults, about one-sixth have psychiatric problems. Young men, people with drug or alcohol addictions and elderly citizens suffering from dementia make up other significant subgroups of missing adults.
About half of the roughly 800,000 missing juvenile cases in 2001 involved runaways, and another 200,000 were classified as family abductions related to domestic or custody disputes.
Only about 100 missing-child reports each year fit the profile of a stereotypical abduction by a stranger or vague acquaintance.
Two-thirds of those victims are ages 12 to 17, and among those eight out of 10 are white females, according to a Justice Department study. Nearly 90 percent of the abductors are men, and they sexually assault their victims in half of the cases.
To further complicate categorization of cases, the FBI designates some missing-person incidents—both adult and juvenile—that seem most dire as "endangered" or "involuntary."

A global average would., I imagine, be phenomenal. I think Brad Steiger has done some research along these lines., as did Charles Fort., people vanishing into thin air.

Some interesting numbers, do you have a source for those stats? I ask because that is a significant number (800,000) and it's pretty intriguiging that I've only heard reference to it recently.

I know a similar discussion had come up before in regards to human mutilations and I was able to find it. It appears even though a very large number of people are reported missing, most are located.
Schuyler parsed the numbers in the Bruce Witkowski/Human Mutilations thread here: Butch Witkowski/ Human Mutilations.

"Thanks for that link, NTS. I've been looking through the stats. It looks to me that in 2007, the number of entries into the system was 814,957 and the number of deletes from the system was 820,212. In other words, as we suspected, while the number of people reported missing is astronomical, the number of people deleted from the system indicates a net total of approximately minus 5,000 people in 2007. They found more than they entered. The total number of active entries in the system at any one time, covering all years starting from 1983 (when the system itself started) is approximately 105,000.

Juveniles are BY FAR the largest portion of entries with 626,636 entries and, more cancellations at 630,450, i.e.: For 2007 they found more kids than they entered. In terms of endangered adults you see a similar pattern with 94,090 reported and 95,200 canceled. The category of 'Involuntary' is 21,747 entered and 21,675 cleared. There's also a category for people with disabilities and people involved in a disaster (like we're seeing in Haiti right now.)

Notice the categories. "Endangered" or "Involuntary" indicates to me that the authorities have some reason to suspect foul play. Many juvenile abductions, for example, are custody battles, not to mention runaways. The disabled category to me means Alzheimer's, primarily.

We don't have full information about these statistics, so I'm not claiming complete knowledge of the process, but what I think we have here are missing persons statistics that vastly overstate the issue. And in 'abduction research' these statistics are misused to lead you to believe that millions of people worldwide are abducted and never seen again.

We are left with a handful of people we can not account for on a yearly basis and a near zero reason for invoking alien abductions as the cause. I'm not claiming it has never happened, but insofar as declaring an epidemic of alien abductions, I'm thinking that's total B.S.: Hyperbolic nonsense."

Gene, this is one of the most amazing events in Australia, which I believe may explain missing persons-

No official conclusion has been given for the strange sound which was heard that interrupted the last statement of the pilot.
No sign of wreckage was ever found after a full scale search.
The 17 second open microphone at the end of the conversation, a metalic grinding noise was heard.

While many people who are reported missing eventually turn up there is still a large number who don't. Slavery is alive and well even in the USA. It is a problem that doesn't get a lot of press.
