MonsterQuest on the History Channel

Is anyone else interested in the new History Channel show MonsterQuest, which begins airing on Halloween with, according to the "Info" button on my Dish Network remote, a show on Champ? The commercials make it look like it will be a very, very slickly produced show with lots of gorgeous animation. One commercial, a kind of general show overview, features some interesting big bird video. I don't know that it will be particularly fair or balanced but it should at least be pretty!

The official website, with a spiffy ad, is here:

Hi there! Yes I do know a bit about the series. It from what I know, is a 13 part series, about 13 different species. Lake monsters, Thunderbirds, werewolves, Sasquatch and many more. Its been in the works for about a year. I missed last nights, was it good?

I have little kids, so I had to do the Halloween thing, but I DVRed it. It is on several more times this week according to my DVR's schedule system.

New episodes begin tonight... I don't remember what is scheduled though. I believe it is an hour earlier than before, too.

I quit watching all of their stuff, because in EVERY EPISODE, they don't find anything. It's always a mystery. When these people start finding something, I'll start watching. I got more out of the movie Strange Wilderness, than I have from ANY documentaries on cryptozoology.

Certainly it's a shame there are no spectacular discoveries but I still think it's a great series. If only I could say the same for certain UFO programmes!

You know what would be really damned cool???

Find out where they're investigating, and then hoax the crap out of them. Especially on a Bigfoot investigation. My GOD... How funny would that be? Go out there and wear a big monkey suit, and terrorize them for a few days ala Blair Witch Bigfoot.

Man... I need to make a wookie costume.

This series is way better than most. What series is better?? I can't think of one. Certainly not UFO Hunters. Not Ghost Hunters. Not Paranormal State. Not UFO Files. Maybe In Search of (kinda have a soft spot for that old show, perhaps it is just Nimoys voice)

This series, although there are a few flaky episodes, does a good job of evaluating actual evidence. Video, pictures, video on demand via attached to animals. You can't tell me that the giant squid episode was not a great episode. Actual video of a live giant squid?? That is unprecedented and verge of new insight. On a History channel program. That was awesome. Tell me one other show that has done anything useful.

We have seen video and pictures of giant wild hogs (weird, but interesting), big cats, and so on. The bigfoot episode was interesting although I wonder what was really throwing rocks. Tommy, where were you on the date of filming??

Mostly there are no solid conclusions, but sometimes there are. There WAS a great big wild hog. There WAS what seemed to be a large black cat(where it came from is another topic). There WERE rocks thrown. There WAS a giant squid captured on film for the very FIRST time. Skunk ape=bunk. Rods=BUNK (via camera duplication) Giant birds= no evidence for. There has been evidence in favor of not in favor of. I haven't seen all the episodes yet, but for my money I would rather watch this show than any other. It is just better in my opinion.

@TClaeys - That's a good point, I'd forgotten about the giant squid!

@Paranormal Packrat - I've seen that incident before but can't remember where. Is the vid from "Sasquatch - Legend meets Science"? Personally, I'd have been terrified

The "incident" was on Monsterquest. This little snippet was not shown on the episode and must have been taken after returning from Ontario. The episode, I think, raised some excitement and I remember hearing an interview with Meldrum about it. He said he wasn't scared or anything and that they looked in the woods until it got very late and found nothing.

BTW what was that beginning part where the kid says "Am I supposed to say I was walking on the porch??" ?? Is he telling the truth here or was he just confused how to relate the story or what? That seemed a little weird, but he describes the incident as it happened.

The simplest explanation is that someone was there throwing the rocks. Was everyone accounted for?? Could there have been another cabin close? I know they were in a very remote area, but people do go to these areas right? Anyway it was an interesting episode.

No, it's not from Legend Meets Science. That young guy is part of the Monsterquest crew.

Thanks for the link Ron. Wow, I guess there's 4 bigfoot shows they did then.

TC, yeah everytime I watch the vid I posted I wonder about the first comment. It's like he is being coached. One way of interpreting it at least.

The incident led to them finding blood and hair. It's been analyzed and is reportedly an unknown primate, that is more closely related to humans than chimps.
