Moon Colonization: 30 Years Too Late?

Free episodes:

Trying to explain that crazy 40 year gap is going to be the top question for future generations.

My best bet explanation for the gap is waiting for the evolution of supporting technologies reducing the human risks for such ventures. From that perspective, the focus on Mars seems to have been a way to buy time before moon colonizations became a bit cheaper and less risky ?

Another possibility is that americans and russians may not want to lose their edge to an aggressive China... or India ? A Chinese settlement on the moon would definitely kickstart a mad moon rush for ressources and territorial claims for these icy areas they've found at the poles. Not to mention that the moon can be used as a great earth observation platform. Telescopes can be set up on the dark side of the moon which offers minimal interference from earth signals and no atmosphere to block the light or radiations.

Too bad I wasn't born a few decades later to see this :(

Nailed it methinks. The chinese have said they want to build a base there, recent water discoveries opens a whole new scope to such projects, fuel and oxygen can be had in situ.
