I am not sure how this one got by me. I never heard of the film "Ice Station Zebra" before. It stars Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan & Ernest Borgnine. I'm barely half way through but so far I am impressed. Especially the interior submarine scenes. The interior shots are realistic, unlike the ridiculous interiors in The Hunt For Red October. I dig Cold War stories/movies. I always have but ironically became a sub hunter in my Navy days while the Cold War was still going on. So far, based on what I've seen - I'd highly recommend this film. Here's a workable link for those interested :)

I saw that at the theatres when it first came out and I was just a kid :cool: .

Wow! Very cool. It says it came out in 1968. I was a few years off from being conceived ;_) I can't believe how realistic the sub shots are. Especially in 1968. It looks way more realistic then the ridiculous Star Wars prequels I just recently saw for the first time (because of CGI). To me, CGI has the same effect as a hub cab on fishing line. Obviously fake. Especially knowing the actor really doesn't have that thing/character standing in front of them. I'm so over CGI. Hope it all goes back to practical effects.

Movie just keeps getting better & better. I still can't believe how realistic mostly everything is, esp. in 1968. Just got this off of IMDB;

Unique and innovative underwater camera equipment was developed for this movie by 2nd unit cameraman and cinematographer 'John M Stephens', a former U.S.A. Navy diver, who is billed in the credits for additional arctic photography. The camera system enabled the first ever filming of a continuous submarine dive and this technical innovation produced some outstanding photography for the picture. This achievement was encapsulated in an accompanying MGM short promo film The Man Who Makes the Difference (1968) which is available on the DVD for this movie.

I just finished watching. I'd have to say this will now be on my favorite movies list. Had me guessing what's going to happen right until the very end. Very well done, IMO. Still can't believe I've been here 44 years and have never even heard of it.
