Hey guys, sorry for the lame heading, but it's the best way to describe this.
Hang in there, it may be a long story, as I don't want to leave anything out.
I'll be as concise as possible, and hopefully get to the point quickly.
My name is Dan, I'm in my mid 30's and from Australia, Melbourne to be exact.
I'm not really a huge believer, nor a skeptic... but an experience about 15 years ago freaked me out a bit, and still does.
Well, back in November 1997, I was 21 years old (just),
I was staying at my then girlfriends place in a town called Ballarat.
Ballarat was an old gold rush town that was very popular in the 1850's, and saw many prospectors travel from around the world to make their fortune, the city is still discovering gold to this day and makes a decent amount of the tourist dollar due to this phenomenon.
It is a home to 100 000 people today.
Around 11pm we were in the living room on a warm late spring night watching a VHS movie with all the lights off, and no housemates around (there were two others living there at the time), just the two of us.
The living room was rectangle in shape, with two french doors at either end.. one leading into a more formal lounge and the other opening from an entry hallway.
A window faced the front yard and the couch we were sitting on faced toward the window, the TV sat underneath this.
While seated there, the video started rewinding and stopping and starting on it's own, nothing that felt out of the ordinary, but enough to make me get off the couch to check on it.
It didn't react to my pressing of the buttons so i unplugged the power cord from the outlet.
This did nothing.
It was still working, rewinding, stopping without a power source.
This was weirding my gf out a bit, but I thought nothing much of it. Then from the doorway to the entrance hall I heard a noise and the cat that lives at the house came hurtling through the room at head height and straight through the other doors into the lounge room.
Now this is where I thought someone was inside.
I jumped up, my girlfriend screamed a bit, but I told her to be quiet...the cat ran back through and headed towards the bedrooms.
I ascertained that there was no one in the house and we headed to her bedroom where we thought the cat had gone. (also to check housemates rooms to make sure no one was home / had got in.)
When I reached her room the door was barely open, it sat at the bottom left hand side of the room and opened inside to the right, so you couldn't see into the room until the door was completely open. As I had it about 1 third opened I heard what can only be described as a demonic growling.... I naturally thought it was the cat, but as I opened the door more, the growling became more menacing. To the point where we backed off.
At this point my gf was totally freaked and wanted to leave right away, I didn't need any convincing.
We got to my place and told my housemate right away. Now us being guys in our early 20's naturally we wanted to head straight back and check it out.
So about an hour after it started we were back out the front. My gf came with us, only because she was rather terrified at the prospect of being alone in my house which was also over 100 years old and very dark.
My housemate and I walked into the house, it was probably after midnight by now, to have a look, and retrieve some clothing for my gf as she wasn't staying there for a while at least.
We were in t shirts and shorts, as it was a warm night and almost summer. But as we entered the house it was cold, very cold. This is where I really started feeling weirded out.
We grabbed some clothing etc. had a quick look around but I was too scared to stay longer than 5 minutes.
The next day we asked her housemates if they were there, or a friend was messing with us etc. I thought unlikely as the cat was hurtled through the room with quite a bit of force, waaay too much to be someone scaring us.
They knew nothing and were pretty shook up at the story.
My gf never spent another night in the place, and one of the other girls was so freaked out by a few strange occurances in the next few nights that she moved back to her parents house.
that left one girl staying in the house, the girl who owned the cat.
About 5 days afterwards I got a call at work from my girlfriend, Amber, the girl that stayed on in the house had died in a single occupant car crash in the middle of the day on a straight piece of road. No one knows how or why she crashed.
Sorry for the long story, and it's most probably very poorly written. I thought it may interest some people. I don't talk about it hardly, and I try not to think about it much as it scares me a bit. I had nothing strange ever happen to me before this, and nothing has happened since.
Thanks for reading!
