Paranormal Adept
So I decided to start a blog, just for the hell of it, and I figured I'd post it up here. The first entry has nothing to do with the paranormal (definitely the abnormal though) but I'm sure I'll do some stuff on that as well eventually. It's going to be mostly news, rants and stories from my past, some that involve me directly and some that don't. The first entry is called "The Best Anti Drug Story I Know" and I encourage everyone to give it a read, don't worry it isn't preachy. Thanks and I hope you enjoy. Here's the link to the blog:

Tales from the Dope Side

Sounds like he had a bit of a psychotic break, and from the earlier warning in the blog post, where your cousin suggests that he needs to be watched and not allowed to roam free, I feel there's other back story content regarding this guy (dying dog as example#1). My experience has taught me that the psychotic break gets fueled by the THC & alcohol, and as we know from set & setting, people who are not in a good personal space should definitely stay away from hallucinogens; because, instead of solutions, disaster follows and this is a definitive case. Muadib, it sounds like you're going to unload some other very interesting life experiences here. I look forward to he tellings.

The anti-drug story I tell is far less disturbing: my recent ex at the time called me desperate for help in the middle of the night. Her teenage brother was unconscious in the hospital after having smoked a joint for the first time ever and then dropped a tab as well. When he came to, he was convinced his parents had hired the mafia to kill him. Decades later he remains in a treatment facility. He's never been the same since, neither has his family been the same. Drugs are powerful compounds that shoud not be unleashed indiscriminately.

Nice introductory post. Not meaning to co-opt your story but it does make me wonder about our individual psyches. That is, some people undet the influence of hallucogens may compose a hit song, may pitch a no-hitter, write the great american novel, jump off a bridge or mutilate themselves..

in a way it is sort of like our current thinking in paranormal experiences, that is, the outcomes in these stories you read about may be dependent on what is already inside us, waiting to be unleashed, things we are already capable of doing, even the unthinkable.

Thanks for taking the time to read it, Burnt. A psychotic break is a definite possibility, the obvious question is why. I have my theories but that's all they are. When my cousin asked him what happened and why he did it, he claimed to not remember anything, so unless he remembers at some point in the future and tells my cuz, we'll likely never know the why of it.

Drugs can definitely be a wild card, for anyone, whether you're a person who can use them responsibly or not. As yours and my story illustrates, even substances that you think you've got a handle on can really throw you for a loop, and you may never come back from it. The utmost caution must be exercised and one should always have a sitter, as I tried to explain to my cousin before he unlocked the gate and let this guy out of the house.

You're not co opting at all, I think it's a relevant issue, I've taken psychedelics numerous times when I was younger and the last thing they ever made me want to do was mutilate myself or anyone else. Personally, I think this guy had some buried issues, probably sexual in nature given his choice of body parts to mutilate, that came rushing through years of repression while he was under the influence.

It's always important to remember that substances affect different people in different ways, what's safe for your buddy may not be safe for you and as I said before, none of this should be taken lightly or dealt with in a nonchalant manner, but it is every day. I hope the people that read this remember the story and start to take things like this a bit more seriously, if that's what they're into. I've spent a lot of time in the drug culture when I was younger and it always amazed me how careless people were with these kinds of things, I was always the guy looking things up, testing and verifying and advocating caution, maybe that's why I'm still here while so many of my friends aren't.

By the way, thanks for taking the time to read it Wade. :)

As my one friend described hallucinogens, "They really rinse your head." Any issue that you have buried will come to the forefront and can even become the focus. For sure, with a therapist, substances like mushrooms can be used, as they are currently in palliative care clinics, to completely readjust the fear of death for the dying. But, in an uncontrolled state with extra booze etc. it can take you deep into the nightmare of unresolved issues and result in an explosion of the ego. For some, they will be forever changed for the worse, especially without a guide or sitter.
