"Eyewitnesses told Sky News that up to 70 bright circular objects could be seen near Halesowen (UK)."

Chinese lanterns?

Well, the eyewitnesses said,
"The objects were absolutely silent and traveling at probably twice the speed of a normal aircraft.
"They were all circular and had 13 to 15 lights around the rim. Each had lights in the centre which were flashing on and off. They went south at a terrific speed."

So, maybe they know what they saw--but the video makes them look like lanterns to me... they look like they have fire inside them, like flares, rather than self-illuminating UFOs...

Maybe it's just me, but I'm still interested in seeing Air Force gun camera footage, I want to see the impossible right-angle turns that people used to report and these incredible feats of flight that we couldn't possibly replicate with our most advanced aircraft.

I've had enough of these "fleets" and "lights"... let's get back to the 1952 Washington Merry-Go-Round, where flying saucers were photographed over the Capitol Building, and every evening newspaper in the country carried them.

One thing I do like about UFO Hunters (actaully, I like the show quite a bit, they at least know their case histories) is that they bring in new video, radar tapes, never-before seen footage and so forth.

update:

"BREAKING NEWS
Source Of Midlands UFOs Revealed

A dramatic display of bright lights in the West Midlands which prompted local fears of a UFO invasion has been revealed as a bit of child's play.

The mystery objects were identified as a cluster of cheap flying lanterns.

They had been released into the night sky last night during a children's carol service at a nearby primary school in Halesowen."

....

Stupid children and their motherf... clusters of cheap flying lanterns!
*shakes fist in direction of primary school in Halesowen, UK*

This part is most interesting, although I think we can probably say that there is an earthly origin for the lights, the description the witness gives (honestly we must assume), seems to show the fallibility of human perception when confronted with 'unknown' objects in a dark sky. The speed estimate is staggering if you think about it, an 'average' plane would be around 500mph (ish) ( my source for this is dubious just 'wikiAnswers'), and he estimates it at twice that, where they must have been travelling slightly slower we can assume!

His suggestion that it was 'twice the speed of a normal aircraft' suggests he considered this as an option, but dismissed it because of the 'terrific speed'.

An interesting case indeed! thanks ddd999 for bringing it to my attention. I really feel IFO's deserve more attention within this field to help us gauge 'real' cases.

Maybe we need a few 'IFOlogists' how could study this less appealing aspect of the mystery :D!
