"Neil Armstrong's cryptic message"

That clip was taken from the original moon hoax documentary. They obviously used it as fodder to prove their theory that they didnt go to the moon. Personally, I think it has to do with what he saw up there on the moon. I mean, just why oh why oh why oh why has he given only 1 interview since going to the moon? Its fricken bizarre. Apparently he resigned as soon as he got back too.

The speech was a super rare public appearance that he made at the 25th anniversary of the moon landing.

yeah, he and Jackie Onassis' are pretty quiet for people who must have a lot to say.
 
I agree wth Gareth..... I dont doubt that we went to the moon.... ok there are unanswered questions surrounding it but Neil Armstrong's comment "Breakthroughs available to those who can remove one of truth's protective layers" suggests that there is something being hidden. His facial expressions and apparent emotional state says a fair bit too.

couple of thoughts.....

Is the layer there to protect the truth from us, or us from the truth?

How many layers do you think there are? There's obviuously more than one or our friendly Pioneer would have just said "truth's protective layer" and not specified a quantity.

Don't read into it things that aren't there.
There is no reason not to believe that he is simply using slightly poetic language to encourage participation in scientific discovery.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.

.....and dont easily dismiss the language of someone who has been to another world as "slightly poetic". Im damn sure he has a different perspective to the vast majority of us afterall.

We don't know either way. Without more info. I agree it's silly to jump to conclusions off this brief vid though. One of the reasons I asked for more info.

I think Neil was foolish to use such vague terms. He should know better than that. He being an astronaut should know just how many humans make mountains out of gnat turds and read into things. Just look at most if not all the moon hoax evidence.
 
I agree Kevin, theres every chance that he was speaking of purely earthly matters. However there are other issues that couple with that speech that paint a bigger picture. Hopefully he signs a death bed affidavit.

I wasn't dismissing his language at all. I was just noting that it was other than a prosaic way of putting it, in case that was what was confusing people into imagining he was hinting at something other than what he was clearly saying.

So get off your freaking high horse, you don't know how to ride it anyway.

Dont see anything hidden in that video. I think he was just talking about space exploration and the things we havent discovered yet.

But i do believe Neil saw something or experienced something, what that something was is anyones guess?
 
I don't see anything whatsoever "cryptic" in this quote.

It is, I suppose, possible it can be heard to mean that our moon landing was a huge hoax or that the moon contains inexplicable anomalies. Or it could mean that breakthroughs, by their nature, require that someone examine the world as we know it in a new way, that "truth" always contains a protective layer until that layer is peeled back by the visionary/inventor/creator. Given the context in which he was speaking--to a group of young people--I agree with Kevin that this is simply a well-considered turn of a phrase encouraging them to explore new horizons. Frankly, I think the alternative interpretations require some very strained reading between some very thin lines.

While I think that its important to recognise the context in which such comments are made, it was only a section of Armstrong's presentation shown in that youtube clip. It may shed more light on it if it were possible to see the entire piece. There may have been something said earlier that makes the "layer of truth" comment easier to place.

That said, you also have to take into consideration comments made by other astronauts such as Edgar Mitchell. Mitchell is obviously far more vocal/outspoken about his experiences and more specifically his views on UFOs, thats possibly why people are more likely to notice possibly corroborative noises made by the elusive Mr Armstrong
