As I see it, religion's kinda like an alcoholic or clinical anorexic...impervious to reason. At the same time, a belief in God or some supreme creator wouldn't necessarily take a big hit from aliens showing up. The fundie guys think evolution has been made up to piss them off and would have no problem doubting the word of aliens. They've already laid the groundwork by identifying aliens as demons.

I'm not sure that any of this would be relevant to the theory of evolution. Science would definitely change to encompass the new knowledge brought about by confirmed life-forms from elsewhere, but how much?. Even if it came about that alien critters had somehow played a part in our existence, evolutionary/biological science would still stand. The principles of these sciences would apply as much to the visitors as to any other life form. Even if they were way in advance of us, at some point in their history, their existence was dictated by the same drives that have brought us this far.

This is where we could seriously screw up. Our world is hierarchical and people love being at the top of the pyramid. Would diplomacy or international relations matter when no nation needs anything from their neighbours? What would drive us when defence and resources no longer matter? I can't imagine a world with free energy and enough food and water for everyone. What would we do with our time? I guess we'd still be stuck with government and people would still be assholes so we'd need law enforcement. Education would continue to be important and we do love being entertained. From that perspective, education, entertainment and the administrators of government would carry on. 2 out of 3 ain't bad!?

All things considered...life would likely be much the same as it's always been in a completely different way. As Led Zeppelin once said...the song remains the same. Or as Donald 'Duck' Dundee explained, 'If the shit fits, wear it,'
