‘Walking Dead’ fan shoots girlfriend who wouldn’t get serious about zombie attacks

A Monday argument over the cable television show The Walking Dead ended with a Long Island man firing a bullet into the back of his girlfriend because she would not take the possibility of a real zombie attack seriously.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Nassau County police Detective Lt. Raymond Cote said that 26-year-old Jared Gurman had shot his girlfriend, Jessica Gelderman, with a .22-caliber rifle resulting in a pierced lung, shattered rib and pierced diaphragm, according to WNBC.

“He feels strongly about the possibility that some military mishap could occur causing some tragic consequence,” Cote explained.

But Gurman’s girlfriend refused to believe that it was realistic to worry about zombie attacks like those depicted on the popular AMC show.

“She felt that it was ridiculous,” Cote said.

Apparently tired of arguing, Gelderman drove Gurman back to his home and then she returned to her own own home. That’s when the dispute escalated over text messages and she drove back to Gurman’s home because she worried that he had become unstable.

“She tried to diffuse the situation and calm him down,” Cote told reporters. “She was walking up the stairs to the apartment when Mr. Gurman raised the rifle, pointed it at her and fired one round into her back.”

Note to self: Self, if you become involved with a man who believes it's likely a zombie apocalypse will happen, thinks zombie fiction may be based in reality, cannot respect a difference in opinion, is well armed and acting "unstable", DO NOT go over to his house to try and calm him down. Instead, call 911 and rethink the mistakes you've made in your life that have led you do date an unstable zombie apocalypse survivor. It may be necessary to take meds. Try spending more time with the dog and cat.

According to the New York Daily News, the shooter's favorite quote was, "When there's no more room in hell the dead will walk the earth. The living won't have a prayer because it's dawn of the dead."

So, other than being a well-armed Zombie Apocalypse Survivalist who believes zombie fiction is reality, cannot tolerate different opinions and whose favorite quote was about hell being too crowded for more dead people, there was absolutely no sign whatsoever that he might just be nuts.
