Alien-like creature pulled from New Jersey area an Internet sensation

Apparently it is a giant sized sea lamprey which is a parasitic creature that feeds on saltwater fish.

"According to the DEC, sea lampreys are eel-like jaw-less and boneless parasites, boasting mouths full of rasping teeth and a file-like tongue"

They usually only get up to 3 feet but this one seems especially large..
