old carving shows astronaut?

Free episodes:

Suppose it depends of the age of the carving. If it was old, like 100 years plus then it really is weird! Not had chance to watch yet, so don't know if that is mentioned. But it undeniably looks like a spacesuit with helmet and even an airline thing the helmet looks plugged into. There are plenty ancient drawings etc that look like aliens or astronauts that are open to interpretation, but this looks absolutely spot on, no if's , no but's!

Lol, this is far out. :)

I do have a hard time understanding how this wasn't discovered previous to 2013 if it's been there all the time. It looks very out-of-place. And I don't trust the video's claim that it hasn't been added after human space exploration :p

I have heard and read before of some instances where sometimes modern sculptures have been added to spires and cathedrals around the world from time to time, either to signify some event or whatever reason, like the darth vader head that was added to a Washington cathedral after a competition, if I remember correctly (I also think it was featured as a plot point in Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol' novel).

And there was that Blue Peter one, where some plaques where added to York Minster's ceiling inside to signify major events of history - including one regarding space exploration (Blue Peter is a UK kid's TV show).

I could not get the video to play, but would like to know where this was, as this may also have been the case.

It does indeed look like an astronaut!

It is no mystery. The carvings were added in 1992. The carver was Jeronimo Garcia.

I am a stonemason and I can confirm that this is a modern carving because of the detailing and the "weathering" of the sandstone used. If people would just give the cathedral a ring and ask?

Unfortunately it turns out to be an addition carved in the early 90s (disfigured a year later and then restored) Three people posted essentially the same information in the YT comments:

The astronaut was added recently, in 1992 by Miguel Romero, as a representative symbol of the 20th century...

This was made in 1993 when the cathedral of Salamanca was remodeled.

But we've seen this guy a number of times in ancient cave art, haven't we?

Too good to be true. It is true that some ancient art depicts humans that look like they are wearing spacesuits and stuff but it's never convincing, it's too open to interpretation.

However, there is rock art etc that does seem to depict 'alien' type entities, which although not convincing on their own, taken together worldwide when the artists should have no knowledge of similar art in other countries, and then we have a little mystery. Maybe...

My initial thought when I saw it was that it was depicting a hooded monk's cowl.

Second paragraph - but it reminds me of children's drawings world-wide. Before a certain age - like 5 - the drawings are similar point-to-point. How the human figure is drawn, how trees show up regardless if the child 'sees' palm trees or oak trees in their everyday life - all the same. World-wide.

Then comes up the issue - from what kind of consciousness was ancient humankind drawing upon to make those drawings? Are these archetypes? Take a certain magic mushroom and you see the same "kaleidescope eyes" and colors - what was the artists back then actually 'seeing'? Is it possible that was how they 'saw' each other? Dunno. Just free-basing....
