The article reminds me of some of things Richard Sarradet and Greg Bishop's were discussing on Radio Misterioso, Nov. 6th. The researcher by necessity becoming the experiencer in an attempt to understand some phenomena or another. The approach stills begs for a control element of some kind however. Having been immersed into some of these religious groups the article mentions that have paranormal aspects associated with them, I understand the danger of being overcome and drawn in to such a point where an objective assessment is impossible. You need a partner on the outside to interject some measure of objectively and detachment from the situation and events that may be unfolding. Good grief what a ramble.

Great link! Reductionist tools applied to traditional scientific problems just don't seem to fit in the Fortean world. I'm thinking of a comment made on a podcast discussing the frustrations of studying the ufo phenomenon. One participant noted that "ufos are the gateway drug to an interest in the paranormal", or words to that effect. Both funny and somewhat true, I think.
