Phoenix Flash

Did anyone read about or see the mysterious bright flash
caught by a early morning news camera in Phoenix?

It reminded me of a similar phenom I observed many years
ago, also very early in the morning, coming into Atlanta
after driving all night. We were on the main interstate,
that comes into the city from the north.

The dawn sky at the horizon line suddenly lit up with an
extremely bright, white flash of light with the skyline of
Atlanta silhouetted against it. No sound. The sky was
nearly cloudless and you could tell it was going to be a clear,
sunny day.

My first thought was some sort of power station blew up
until I noticed all the road lights were still lit and the
traffic signals were working.

I saw this posted on yahoo's main page . Im originally from Arizona so it peaked my curiosity. Intresting and bizarre but, really hard to say what it might have been. Did you ever look into what caused the flash in Atlanta? Maybe that could shed some light on the event and its explanation.

and from Russia with love

I do not think they are the same sort of event personally as the Russian one is a transformer throwing a fit for sure but the top one looks more like a lightning strike.
Also note in the first video that the flash is no brighter than the headlights of the cars in the foreground... just something to think about.

I saw the same video posted on the earthlink news. That's what prompted me to post.
I never found out what caused the flash I saw in Atlanta. I was a passenger in the car
and the driver didn't see it perhaps because he was busy driving. I hate to say how long ago
this was - sometime in the late 70s or early 80s, prior to 1983, probably late June or early July. To the best of my knowledge, nothing was reported in the Atlanta news at the time.

I had actually forgotten all about it until I saw this Phoenix report. I know there can be lightning strikes in perfectly clear skies. I don't know if they're accompanied by thunder. I've never seen one. My recollection of the Atlanta flash was that it appeared very wide and bright. Perhaps it is something meteorological or rare atmospheric optical effect.
