Problems with Greer's Alien

So, if you're like me, you've recognized the fact that Steve Greer is full of crap, so when he said that he'd recovered the body of an 18" alien, I assumed that it was bs, well timed bs considering he has a documentary in the making, but bs nonetheless. So in my travels around the internet I've tried to find out more about this situation and there's really very little out there of substance, which isn't very surprising. I came across this the other day and I had to laugh because it's a real doctor breaking down some of the many things that are wrong with Greer's supposed "world class" examination of this 18" alien, as gleaned from the latest trailers for his documentary. Enjoy.
The Gloves Are Off?

“You must be at least this tall to ride the Greer Gravy Train.”

Kickstarting an exopolitical “documentary” where secret doctors in an unnamed lab test a potential alien corpse without even wearing gloves, brought to you by a man who claims to have thwarted the assassination attempt of a secret government/military cabal? BAD IDEA.
Dr. Steven Greer and a team of top researchers are conducting an investigation of a possible deceased alien entity. Details regarding the provenance of the remains and circumstances surrounding the death of the purported once-living being are sketchy, but may be clarified in a soon-to-be-released documentary. A video progress report has been posted on YouTube (Sirius Documentary Update #5 Into Post Production.) Please have a look at the video.
The putative alien being is not the only strange thing featured in the video; the actions of the researchers are utterly inexplicable. As the entity was placed on the examination table for X-ray perhaps you noticed that not everyone handling it was wearing gloves. Furthermore, the team did not employ much in the way of barrier devices at all, things like gloves, face masks, surgical gowns, etc. Contrast this operation with how your dental hygienist is attired as he/she cleans your teeth.
But that thing, whatever it is, is not living. What’s the harm? First, from a scientific perspective, by handling the entity without gloves and proper equipment you complicate your investigation. Grabbing the thing with ungloved hands contaminates it with the oils, cells and other items on your hands, including bacteria and microbes. That simple error may lead to interesting problems for experiments intended to demonstrate whether or not this object is alien to our biosphere – only the prime motivation and objective for the entire study, that’s all. Seeing only a few seconds of how the investigators manipulated the entity, I can predict that biochemical analyses are almost guaranteed to show large amounts of keratin, amazingly just like what we have in our own hair and skin. Now is that direct biochemical evidence of shared origins, some sort of weird convergent evolution or simply gross contamination arising from the investigator being sloppy? An analysis nightmare for anyone who fails to examine specimens under controlled conditions or properly preserving and storing them.
OK, following sloppy protocols destined to contaminate the entity with the skin, hair and microbial flora of investigators is one problem, but there are even more issues. Let me remind you that the thing appears to be dead. Assuming it was once alive leads naturally to questions about how and why it expired. What if this little guy was out there busily mutilating cattle and got infected with anthrax? Maybe when their work was finished the investigators had the presence of mind to wash their hands before going to lunch. Maybe not.
The possibility of acquiring a potentially deadly disease like anthrax demands using precautions to guard against investigator infection or equipment contamination. Think back to the video and recall how they handled the entity. How would you like to be the next patient on the table after whatever that was and whatever else that was on it had been there first? Perhaps when their examinations were completed the investigators scrupulously scrubbed and decontaminated the entire area and all equipment. Off camera, of course. Hope they placed the gloves and cleaning supplies in approved biohazard containers and disposed of everything using appropriate procedures.
Now let’s go back and ponder this situation just a bit more. Acquiring an infection because the investigators failed to follow even common sense, standard precautions to protect themselves would be profoundly stupid. But it could actually get far worse. If that entity is not of this earth, what happens if it harbors a unique microbial flora? Humans carry a veritable army of bacteria, some beneficial, some potentially dangerous, in and on us. Maybe this entity is similar. However, whatever microbes it does contain will be different than those to which we have been exposed to on Earth. They could be harmless, but the new (to us) organisms could also turn out to be deadly since our immune systems may have no ability to recognize and control them. Unfortunately, these dudes have done the critical experiment to discover if any really bad microbes are present. A bad idea that I hope has turned out well for them – and us.
The idea of novel pathogens introduced by foreign invaders and devastating native populations is no far-fetched theory. It’s called human history. Think what happened when the indigenous peoples of the New World and Polynesia first encountered Westerners. They were decimated by the pathogens traveling with the explorers, conquerors and settlers. Diseases like smallpox and yellow fever literally changed human history by helping Cortez defeat Montezuma and providing an impetus to use slave labor in the colonies. The devastation followed contact between beings spawned on the same home planet who had a period of separation. What may transpire should we ever encounter truly alien creatures with a completely distinct evolutionary history bringing with them a shadow army of utterly novel microbes?
When scientists study an unknown entity they will take precautions to avoid contamination and disease transmission. If you are old enough to remember the first manned lunar landing missions, you may recall that on return to Earth, the astronauts were put in quarantine. Despite overwhelming scientific opinion that it was virtually impossible anything pathogenic to humans would be on the Moon, a quarantine was imposed. The responsible thing to do was to assume nothing and act according to the precautionary principle. In fact, NASA today extends efforts to avoid contamination far beyond our home planet. Probes dispatched on interplanetary exploration missions are assembled under conditions that minimize chances for terrestrial microbes to hitch a ride. NASA has an Office of Planetary Protection (NASA Office of Planetary Protection) charged with ensuring that solar system bodies are protected from terrestrial contamination as well as safeguarding our planet from any agents that might arrive from sampling missions. Contrast these efforts with what you see presented in the Update #5 video.
Whether or not Dr. Greer is about to unveil a paradigm shattering discovery remains to be seen. When I look at how his top experts are going about their work it makes me wonder. So far, what I have seen suggests that there are certainly no world recognized authorities rating that designation on the team featured in his video update. Studying a purported alien entity using the practices shown is extremely poor science. Handling the thing the way these guys have is not just a BAD IDEA, it is JUST PLAIN STUPID.

A walk on the paranoid side: I would be hard pressed to imagine a more effective disinfo agent than Greer. He has managed to associate a considerable list of sincere and credible people, some sticking their necks out to relate incredible stores, with his own unique brand of circus hokum. I'm not saying he is or isn't actively practicing the time honored art of disinformation. We have no way to know. Be he has certainly turned out to be good at it and seems to be making a profit as well.

Yeah, so it's a win-.win.
i think Dr. Greer's eagerness makes it convenient for any assumed insider to play him like a violin.

I missed out on this one...kinda glad I did. Greer isn't even in my top 10 individuals of interest concerning UFOs/aliens.

The thing about Greer for me is that if he had always just been some nut, he would have just been another in a sea of idiots in the field.

But many would agree that once upon a time, it seemed that he had some worthwhile ideals, if not ideas, i.e getting various people together who all had various tales to tell relating to the reality of UFO's.
I don't know exactly when he went off the rails but off them he did, bigtime. If he ever had something worthwhile to say in the past, it means pretty much zip now that he has tainted himself with moneymaking, getting behind very dubious people, not to mention crap about 'all ET's being benevolent' and suchlike. Dr Greer, until you can summon all and any ET's down here for a press conference, to order, you cannot possibly make such an assertion.

I'm not sure the guy is evil or even dirty per se, but misguided and a bit nut's? Absolutely. The best thing he could do for the field is to retire from it completely like Bill Moore!:)

There's no need to bother with the tests, it's not an extra-terrestrial. I'll confess, back in kindergarten I decided to feed my Sea Monkeys some hormones, the results weren't too pleasant. But, I never thought they'd find any of the bodies.

And yet he still charges his followers $2,000 to meditate on public land and shine flashlights into the sky. I'm having a hard time believing that Greer would turn down 2 billion, he's all about that dough.

You mean he turned down 2 BILLION?....$2,000,000,000.00.........was that dollars or pesos?
If it was a cool 2 billion bucks, he could finally mass produce that zero point energy generator he's been touting for years and looking for investors to "make it happen".
I've been a wanna be Jedi since 1978, but I'd go over to the dark side for 2 BILLION!

The claim of being offered 2 billion is here at about 25:30... what a guy!
I used to not believe Greer cause my consciousness was way too low. Now I be enlightened and don't puke as much when he talks.

Like all who stay in the Ufology circles too long for the $$$ you must keep outdoing yourself until you are outdone. What's brilliant about these characters, and what they should fall back on, is their acting career. They ran out of script ideas so long ago that you either have to become the Second Coming of Christ or at least be in direct contact with the Greys to maintain their drawing power. Are we sure this isn't Steven's alien love child?

Even Chris O claims to have had some black helicopter experiences IIRC. You'd think that if Greer was anywhere near exposing this "cabal" that he'd be getting stalked and threatened like mad. Guys who get too close and don't back off usually wind up getting "suicided" or in car accidents. Hell, look at how they shut up the astronauts that used to talk a little and hint at things - Cooper was quiet for quite a while before he passed wasn't he? And Mitchell backed off at one point too I think?

His credibility is completely shot thanks to his track record anyway, so when he comes along with a Barbie-sized "alien corpse" it feels sort of like it's not even worth the time to investigate it. The only people that might be affected are the small number of folks that watch this as their first exposure to the alien / UFO reality - it sucks for them!

I did see the documentary. It had multiple proven fake clips, way too much self-promotion for his BS lights in the sky space ambassadorship program, and music that tried way too hard. His vision is grandiose and not rooted in reality. His spiritual bend on things will not win the hearts and minds of critical thinkers.

And on top of all this, he raised all this money from people to make the film yet he won't let it be viewed for free (youtube versions keep getting pulled).

All in all I would call this entire debacle "a big ol' Greer".

I saw it this morning, as well. It would make for a fairly entertaining B-movie on a rainy Sunday afternoon -- small "alien" body (spoiler alert: the DNA test shows that its mother was human); a brave, idealistic "country doctor" who stakes his reputation and his very life on bringing the truth about alien visitation to light; dead scientists, CIA men, and inventors, all of whom knew the truth about cold fusion or free energy or the military industrial complex (many of whose deaths are misrepresented as being mysterious); a myriad of UFO footage, some of which has been proven to be fraudulent; and a healthy dose of 9/11 Trutherism and Bilderberg Group subplots.

For those who buy into Dr. Greer's story, the film likely offers everything they expect to hear. For those who don't believe Dr. Greer, the film is an eye-rolling extravaganza.

Personally, I believe the best that can be said of Dr. Greer is that he has come to believe his own press and has fallen into seeing patterns in certain events in his own life -- patterns that are not truly present. To be fair, we all see ourselves as the protagonist of our own story. But some of us, like Dr. Greer, choose to become our own dime novel biographer. I suppose that would be alright, except that he is using his inflated biography to bilk money from people who are looking for answers.

Ok, wow. Just now listening to yesterday's Coast to Coast... Greer just claimed to have been offered $2 billion (yes, with a "B") to shut down his CSETI program, but he wouldn't give in. Noory just replied by saying "they can't buy you Steven, we all know that". I don't even have any comment on that, lol.

very underwhelming documentary. some interesting tidbits but not worth the time watching it unless you are multitasking and working at the same time like I was. I give it one star out of ten.
