The Japenese have a very fast train also in development. It is called the maglev. When it reachs a certain speed the wheels actually retract and the Magnets take over. It has been clocked at around 360mph.
Robert stephenson the inventer of one of the first Trains the rocket reached a heady speed of 30 mph. It's funny to think, at the time people thought the body would not be able to withstand that kind of speed.

I read somewhere that the scientists of the day had used math to prove that all of the air would be sucked out of the passenger compartments, and the passengers would suffocate. Possibly the same mathematicians who can prove that helicopters and bumblebees can't fly.

Really cool video. 357MPH would almost replace most of the air traffic, IMO.
