DALLAS — Warp-drive technology, a form of "faster than light" travel popularized by TV's "Star Trek," could be bolstered by the physics of quantum thrusters — another science-fiction idea made plausible by modern science.

NASA scientists are performing experiments that could help make warp drive a possibility sometime in the future from a lab built for the Apollo program at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.

A warp-drive-enabled spacecraft would look like a football with two large rings fully encircling it. The rings would utilize an exotic form of matter to cause space-time to contract in front of and expand behind them. Harold "Sonny" White, a NASA physicist, is experimenting with these concepts on a smaller scale using a light-measuring device in the lab. I remember proposing something similar in a prior post... very surprised that the concept holds water :)
 
There is no question Ezechiel, QP will set the new paradigm in science, turning just about everything on it's ear when it does. Speed, Friction, and Distance itself, may very well all be meaningless some day with respect for coordinated travel throughout the Universe.
 
It's a whole different ball game when instead of pushing against matter (thus creating friction.. which is actually energy) you actually are able to contract it in front of you.
What are they going to call this... artificial displacement ? Speed is no longer a limit in that equation... just the energy you need for contraction/expansion of space.
Point and click travel ;).
 
And if my wildest hunch is correct, "speed of thought" travel may someday be a reality. If time and space cease to exist at the point of a given singularity, this natural occurance happening on a truly non harnessable and uncontainable scale, may one day provide enough of a mathematical model (once that math is created, it does not exist at this time) to create a simulation of the same core effect that could be used in conjunction with the mechanics/tech needed to contain and transport ourselves via artifically produced singularity. This may be what some UFOs demonstrate as they are observed and why there is no noise associated with most. The spin of saucers would seem to support such a notion possibly simulated the spin of a black hole, but on a controllable potentiated level rather than one that operates via the infinite density and zero volume that nature's example provides us with.
