That is Crowley's house on the Loch that Page bought. Too bad Crowley wasn't able to hold on to it. He died alone and penniless in some stinking apartment. Goes to show how far that kind of thing will get you.

To be fair, there are some conflicting stories about Crowley's last days, which isn't that surprising really. At any rate, while I enjoy reading about Crowley and thought Diary of a Drug Fiend was a great read, I chalk it up to my inexplicable junky poet fascination, because in all reality there is nothing admirable about him or his life.

Here is Crowley documentary with a Rick Wakeman score.

And for me to be fair My knowledge on crowley is limited to mention of his accounts in the two jack parsons bios I read, but in neither one of them did crowley come off as any kind of misunderstood ahead of his time rennisance man. He seems to have pestered people to get some of his magick degrees, probably because it looked good on his stationary and had absolutely no problems with using and manipulating people to get what he wanted and enrichen himself, and L. Ron took notes. There's little to admire in both these guys unless you admire manipulators.

I only find him interesting as a character who passed through some interesting esoteric religious orders of the time.

For sure Spooky I could not agree with you more even with my limited knowledge of the man.

Well to confirm t.o. s and your own observations , I do acknowledge he wasn't afraid to shake up the establishment, there's nothing wrong with that. But I always heard how different he was and it was quite a disappointment to me how he came off in the above mentioned books. in the end he had clay feet and while there are other books out there on him, I don't really have the time or inclination to read them. If someone else have, I'd be interested if they had different accounts. I'm more interested in mr. parsons, also an imperfect being like all us. I have always considered john whiteside in the same category as nikola tesla. They both had big ideas, had vast and varied interests which conflicted and got in the way of other endeavors and like mr.crowley weren't afraid to look for alternatives to what was considered a given. In other words, ME :) except I'm no parsons or tesla

Although many people would consider the above qualities Dilettante(ish) :(

I'm not a fan of Crowley either, my cheers all go to Austin Osman Spare. I love the video still, though.

I never heard of him so I had to google him, I sorta glanced overhis wikipedia page. Do you know of any good books or accounts on his life?

You googled him, thus.. ;) In the world of Esoteric or whatwever one wants to call it,'shit', I think that man was severly underrated. I'm sorry i can't recommend you any books., I think Pete Carroll didn't do bad in explaining this particular system of believe in his books. :)

I do want to quantify my anti crowley rant though. I can see where some people would find crowley at the very least, interesting. (but I'm not really one who does)

There is a distinction to be made between interesting and admirable, and lets face it one doesn't have to be a saint to be compelling, it's usually the "devils" that are more interesting. My problem with Crowley stems from what I see as very self serving actions done to enrichen himself without having to work and getting others to do it for him.

There is admittedly an interesting aspect to people that can make others do their will while trying to pass it off as their followers own free will. Crowley was all about that, but in the end it still came down to money with Crowley.

If one were to take in to account ones motives (good or evil) more so than money when it comes to "moving" people I'd argue that charles manson was way more interesting (NOT ADMIRABLE) than Crowley as charles got his followers to murder and go to jail for him with no feduciary (spl?) reward. That is scary and humbling.

I read his Diary of a Drug Fiend and enjoyed it. You come away wondering how he lived through it all, how he avoided being killed outright by jealous husbands, crazy associates, and the lot.

I'm with you on that, I still admire people trying to reach for the stars , though. (at least those reasonable enough for me)

I was about to draft a lengthy reply, but we are actually on the same page here. At least I think so. We, humanity, really should get rid off all the shit that tainted us for decades,We are better then that.

'Magick' isn't bad, bad people are bad. 'Bad reputation' is really what it comes down to.

As a very young man i joined an OTO style order, and thus read many of his books.
But i outgrew such things.
He was an interesting individul, but ultimately a bit unhinged imo.

Crowley and the persian rug.................

One day a british ladies society decided a good way to add some titillation to their monthly meeting , would be to invite Crowley to perform some magick for them.

He agreed insisting on payment in advance

He turns up in full regalia and positions himself in the middle of the room, on the persian rug in full view of the assembled ladies.

"so you are going to show us some magick" they ask

"indeed i am" he replied hoisting his robes and squatting on said rug.

Moments later he rises and walks swiftly from the premises, leaving a pile of it steaming on the rug.

As humour goes its pretty twisted, but it always makes me:D
