Recent fires where i live

Free episodes:

Thanks Guys,
Yeah it was a bit of a worry for a while, and its only spring here.
We will see more in summer.
We took delivery of a brand new hydrant standpipe last week, we have a water mains hydrant port out the front of the house, so that will be useful.
We also have a large petrol powered fire fighting pump and big static water supplys on the property (because lol mains pressure can be zero during a fire)

Compared to say the recent philipines disaster we got off lightly, although a trip to any of the local shopping centres always breaks my heart.
Walls of lost animal posters, so many cats and dogs missing.
And of course many will never be found.
Local paper had an example yesterday, lady with 2 dogs and 3 cats, all gone.
40 days later as she walked thru the rubble that was her home she hears a meow, and one of her cats comes staggering out of the bush.
A one in 5 recovery rate may be about what people can expect.

But thats life here, summer can be a picnic in hells hallway sometimes

Nice compilation of how things were up here last month

Wow. I'm speechless. Add in the other disasters around the world and you'd think the world was coming to an end. It's videos like that that make me feel fortunate ( even if some of the houses burning in that video looked like they belong to multimillionaires ).

LOL yes the local demographic is often refered to as the 5 R's

Rich
Retired
Retrenched
Religious
Retarded

So yes we have some multimillion dollar propertys in the mix, my own place has been described by real estate agents as having million dollar views of sydney

Mike I will take high winds and earthquakes over fire any day if the choice had to be made. The climate is changing here for sure and very fast, the winds are getting very violent on an almost weekly basis here. For sure the old Canterbury northwesterly wind can blow hot and hard but this is way worse than it has ever been.

Geoff the lead singer in this clip is a good personal friend, he lives near me in Yellowrock.
His house was saved though his neighbours were not as lucky

He and his brother penned this as a thank you to our Fire fighters

Thanks Mate,
Ive come a long way since ive moved here, back in 94, my bushfire plan involved a metal garbage can and a fish pond.
(can over head, jump in pond, stay under as long as possible)
Today i have 4 large static water supplys, firefighting pump and 60 meters of flat hose which percolates (hose itself gets wet so embers cant put holes in it)
I have a hydrant standpipe and fireproof uniform and the house has sprinklers on roof, which i can run even if water mains and electricity is off.
Ive put fireproof brass mesh over all possible entry points.

Still no plan survives contact with the enemy, but im as prepared as can be.

But last week this guy

New Zealand truck driver Sam Inu, who has been credited with saving four of his neighbours' home from fire using just an esky

No Cookies | Perth Now

Saved four houses in shorts with an esky (ice box).
