I wonder what the "federal officials" explanation was. The article doesn't say.

I interpreted the "federal officials" to be the Major who said it was an airliner -- but you're right that's not clear.

story plus video

This is the AP wire story and there is a two minute AP video that has interviews with two eyewitnesses and the local newspaper.

Thanks; I found the story by the hunter to be compelling.

I wonder what military facilities are nearby. None are apparent on Google Earth, but this is not the best way to find them.

Shouldn't this be in the UFO forum?

Very interesting either way.

It's showing up in the UFO forum on my end; did someone move it?

I apologize if I posted it originally in the wrong forum, my intent was the UFO forum.

Bill Hemmer is asked if he believes in UFOs and he says confidently yes. And then when asked if he has ever seen one, he basically says affirmative while changing the subject:

The articles are well written and the tone is even handed. The video on the other hand was aweful. The "didn't want to start and interstellar war" part of the video was stupid. All in all, I thought the video had the typical humorous undertones attached to the story. Irresponsible reporting like that is why people do not come forward. Its just stupid.

I agree, that is stupid [at least I hope so]. But if the witness really says it, shouldn't they include it in the story?

In my own humble opinion, it's useful because it gives us an indication of the witness's mindset at the time of the sighting.

Other than that, the video just seems to be relaying what folks are saying. I couldn't detect any overt editorializing or "giggle factor."

I am glad we are even able to have this discussion! :D

Yikes, that's a lot.

If these guys are out there flying something as cool as this thing sounds like it is --- I wish they'd go ahead and let us see a few pictures of it. I promise I wouldn't tell anybody about it. ;)

see my comment in the other forum. In addition, I made the other thread before I saw this one, sorry that faux paus made you upset. I figure anything fits in general, is that not the definition of general chat? I realize it's not freewheeling, perhaps that is my mistake. You're being kind of a butt to someone who was just trying to spread what he thought was a local story. And do keep in mind, that other than the digg story, all the others were ap variants with the exception of my link to the local stations, prior to you're addition of our nbc affiliate. The cnn link was from the local abc affiliate.

Apparently the city secretary decided to make a joke of it and put on a bad alien mask before the city council meeting. That shit just pisses me off.

My first sighting was over Lake Travis too, though it was a large white bullet shaped craft, close and clear as a bell, most of it.

the first picture of the object over lake Travs, the one in the sun. That was taken with a digital camera. I have heard that this ic common in digital cameras when aimed at bright lights. Something to do woth the overexposure of the pixels due to the intensity of the light. Maybe we can have some of the image and photo experts comment on that.

Wow, that is cool, great links. Sorry i got testy with you Miah, I was having a bad day at work:) Hard to believe this is all going on right in my back yard relatively speaking. Sounds like you actually went to that mufon meeting miah, is that true?

nvm, I noticed the quotes.
