On Thursday, November 17, at 11 AM Mountain time, we'll be recording a session with Chris Aubeck, co-author (with Martin Shough) of "Return to Magonia: Investigating UFOs in History."

To understand the UFO phenomenon, it's important to evaluate UFO sightings across the centuries. Are cases from hundreds of years ago similar to modern cases? If UFOs are an age-old phenomenon, how does that fact provide clues as to what's really going on?

This will be a fascinating show, and we'll definitely ask Chris to provide some of the most fascinating cases that he and Shough have uncovered.

That sound really interesting, Will there be a peace about the mass sighting and suposed crash nearby Nuremburg Germany in 1561? Logically it will :)
I wonder If there ever was research done on the ground and If it produced Some evidence that it ever happened?
Waiting for that show......

Has Chris ever addressed the thinking that some people have proposed that some UFO's are thought to be biological sky critters...ala Trevor James Constable?

Could the possibility that some are biological explain their apparent changes more than the societal thought at the time?

I forget who right now, but I was pm'd just a couple of weeks ago about having Martin on as a guest - is this just coincidence or partly as a result of a suggestion on the 'guest suggestions' thread?

Regardless, Chris and Martin should make a great show.

  1. What criteria was used to select your top 20 cases in Return to Magonia? Would these be the most likely to have non-conventional explanations based on a larger than usual amount of multi-varied evidence?
  2. What's the cutoff date (I noticed one or more cases are from the 20th century, which is later than all the cases in Wonders in the Sky)?
  3. Are there any cases in recent history that would be considered for this list, if you were looking at them 100 years from now?

My question are as follows:

-What influence, if any, do you believe religion has played in both the reporting and evaluation historical UFO sightings? For instance, have you considered the influence of religion in determining the veracity of a claim in order to avoid confusion with religious folklore?

-By your estomation, how have major world events such as World Wars I and II or the American Civil and Revolutionary Wars impacted the number and nature of historical UFO sightings?

Thank you for your time and I look forward to the show.

TJC's Malaysian adventures began to smell very dodgy once I got a whiff of durian.

I don't rate TJC very much, but in terms of life in the high atmosphere/low orbit, who was it who saw some twisted tubular form outside the capsule which they themselves believed to be life, was it Gordon Cooper?

The only thing I remembered hearing was Scott Glenn's comments about the fireflies outside his capsule (plasma trailings) but I don't think it was ever confused with life forms by him, however I assume this is not what you are referring to.

You mean John Glenn. Scott Glenn is the actor who played Alan B. Shepard in the Right Stuff.
