I am not Christian and never will be, but today is a sad day for the history and heritage of the city I was born and raised in as was my father and so on.

Christ Church Cathedral Deconstruction Can Continue... | Stuff.co.nz

It is not about the building but about protecting our past and our identity so our children understand who we are and can be proud of that heritage for we protected it., the current arch bishop however still can not get her head around it for all she really wants a shiny new mega church in its place.

She has not heritage here as she comes from Canada.. (please take her back there) and no offense to the Canadians here but think about it if the roll was reversed.

Why am I upset? well other than it being my heritage I also know that a member of my own family worked on building that Cathedral... Yet a person with no original ties to my home city wants it torn down. Just think about that for a bit.....

'The process has been quite convoluted and I think disrespectful to the church. It is an icon though and it's a real shame that it has to come down.''

This makes my blood boil!! its about money and not about if it can be fixed.. it can be.. so what price would one put on their heritage?

One last thing the local Anglican Church here has not really been responsible for the up keep and maintenance of the Cathedral.. no it is the tax payers of the city that have been doing that because it is our symbol and identity through heritage....

Right enough from me.

I'm the exact same, not a superstitious bone in my body these days, but i value these old buildings for the sake of their Architectural heritage, very sad indeed.

Thanks man.. I did stand up and help fight to keep it as well but to many here are still hurting from the quakes and just don't have the focus.
