San Luis Valley Cattle Mutilations

Free episodes:

Calling Christopher O'Brien.... Any further info on this?
Old news. Just a rehash of a couple of 2009 cases.

I am of two minds about so-called "UFO expert" Chuck "UFONut.com" Zukowski and his forays into the pastures of Southern Colorado and the San Luis Valley. I sincerely appreciate his enthusiasm but absolutely question the slant of his off-the-cuff, "aliens" must have done it, analysis that he touts to the media. But, having said that, it is good to see someone, at his own expense, with admirable field investigation skills, conducting investigations in the region.

Last Fall (after someone's barrage of calls to the media about several reports by SLV ranchers of "cattle mutilations,") I called to bring him up to speed about a sizable number of other potential mute reports that he was unaware of, plus I wanted to share over a dozen Fall UFO sighting reports from the region, and I suggested that we work together as a team and coordinate our efforts. I have some interesting background information about the two ranchers publicly making the claims that their livestock were "mutilated" and I wanted to bring him up to speed about my research and share this information with him. I never got the chance. He told me that he was unhappy that I referred to him as an "amateur" investigator in a post I made on my website. I reminded him that anyone who investigates unexplained livestock death cases who is not an accredited veterinarian pathologist, is an amateur. He got huffy, copped an attitude, and told me to "never call or email [him] again." So much for suggesting a teamwork approach. Let's face it: there are no "experts" with answers—only those with more creative questions. I have always referred to myself as an amateur investigator, so what's the big deal? Another thing that I should mention is the fact that I have never made a single call to the media to publicize my SLV investigative work to the media. The dozens of TV shows, radio hosts and reporters who have contacted me over the years did so of their own accord. As a rule, I feel it is important to let the activity generate any media attention—not the investigator doing the leg-work. Hisenberg 101. Well, evidently that's not the UFONut way. According to a CO source who knows him, Chuck is acting like he is bucking to be "investigator of the year." It appears he has gone out of his way to alert the media about his expert "investigation" of these equivocal cases that (in my estimation) do not pass the smell test.

I'm a team player and I prefer working with like minded investigators who don't have issues around self-aggrandizement and unfounded hyperbole. Perhaps when Chuck is able to ratchet back his ego and become part of the team, he can be a part of a potential solution—not just another agenda driven true-believer part of the problem.

<snip to avoid quoting the whole post>

Well said. I think it's important to go into any investigation without pre-conceived notions as to the cause of said phenomena. LMH did that at first and I admired her for her original work on the subject.

What is a travesty, at least in my opinion, is when investigators let their egos get in the way of performing the investigation in a thorough and scientific way. It's a shame really, to let something as trivial as the word "amateur" get in the way of teamwork. Considering that the true meaning of 'amateur" is that one is not being paid as a professional.

Now had you said "sophmoric" I can see taking offence. :)
