I don't know about down there, but up here in Canada, the First Nations can't do whatever they want with land. They still have to get Environment Canada's approval before major developments can take place. If there are any similar environmental hoops down there to jump through, a small group of protesters with little or no money can shine a light on the environmental regulations and perhaps hold up the process long enough to deter developers. I know it's happening now with a big oil pipeline they want to build from here to Texas. Are they going to create a new dump site and sewage treatment facility? If not, what are they going to do ... dump it straight into the river? These are serious concerns, and an environmental impact study should be done ( if it hasn't already been done ).

Save the Confluence | Preserving the East Rim of the Grand Canyon
Signed the petition and sent some cash. They have a Pay Pal button.

Having spent a fair amount of time in the area over the years, I know this brain dead plan would be disastrous in more ways than I can name. I don't think the scheme would ever make it through the approval process, but greed never sleeps and I never thought half the bullshit we have lived through so far this century could ever happen here.

One must go to Navajo country and spend time, listen to the people, and breathe the air in order to begin to understand what life is all about in that part of the world. Read all about it, watch whatever you can find, but spending time there is the only way to feel the energy or benefit from it. Building a bunch of ugly shit so fat lazy white people can be motored to and from lunch at the confluence is an insult, a blasphemy, an abomination before all that's good and decent. Go ruin some more "ghost towns" with your casinos, you wretched bastards, but leave the confluence alone.
