Senior astronomer at SETI, Seth Shostak will talk about his new work on our collective fascination with aliens & flying saucers tonight on Coast 2 Coast.

Call me crazy, but I would love to hear him on the Paracast with Gene, and either Paul or Greg. I think we would easily learn how seriously he examines specific cases.

We already know. He doesn't. Or if he does, he's a moron. I'm all for he being on a show that wouldn't just lap up his erroneous statements though. You are crazy, Ron, nothing wrong with that, but wanting him on Paracast doesn't make you so.

I've heard Shostak many times on the SETI Institute's podcast, and he's worth listening to on scientific subjects. But when he's discussing anything remotely paranormal he comes across with a what-are-those-silly-people-saying-now attitude that's kind of offensive, even if you happen in general to agree with him. As if they wouldn't have experienced something they couldn't explain if they were as smart as he is.

Wait a minute, Shostak looks into UFO cases? I wasn't aware he does that. All I've ever seen him do is make generalized statements about distances in space and lack of concrete proof when the UFO topic gets brought up. The guy is obviously very smart and he's one of those fast talkers, thinks very quickly on his feet. But I haven't seen anything that indicates that he is at all knowledgable about UFO case data.

I doubt he really cares about UFOs at all. He's a scientist that's involved with SETI, so when people start talking about aliens visiting us, they bring him out to discuss what astronomers are doing to see if they can find proof of intelligent life out there. He's a busy man with lots of work to do - I highly doubt that he's busy looking up UFO cases, just like I doubt UFO researchers are studying the cosmos. He's like most astronomers in that he's quite certain intelligent life is somewhere out there. There's just not real proof that they've showed up here yet. I tend to agree with that sentiment.

No comment Just keeping some notes.

Because of the moron remark I'm guessing. I saw Don get on you about an "ad hominem". But I also saw Paul K. say he calls a moron a moron. Hopefully my remark didn't break any rules. Speaking of which, if things have changed in recent times, I should probably read the newew rules. Are any posted anywhere?

Hi Lance,
You cant fault Aaron, he is a long time equal opportunity insulter. :)

Good to have you back Aaron! Truth be known I always liked your humor. Maybe that proves I'm crazy more than anything.

Thank you. I've been kinda back for awhile now. Just haven't posted much. I'm a little behind. Ew, I just called my self a little butt.

What I would like to see, is a SETI documentary that has ufologists on that debunk and ridicule SETI. So many times I see ufo documentaries that have SETI people on do that with ufology. As if being a SETI scientist means they know a lot about ufos...

Another thing I hate about certain seti people is, they say there is no good evidence for ufos etc. Yet, they haven't brought forth any good evidence via SETI. This is according to them even. I would be nice and offer the Big Wow as possible evidence, but they don't seem to consider it very weighty.
