Disco still sucks.
I recently got to wondering just what the makeup of the subject matter of The Paracast shows has been.

So, I listed the shows in a spreadsheet and placed each show into one of three subject matter categories, UFOs/ET, Afterlife, or Other.

Now, some shows I had to make a judgement call, and others were all over the place so I just placed them in other. I was just doing this for my own purposes, to see how many of the shows were dealing with the UFO/ET area -- my greatest area of interest, by far.

But, after I got done, I thought I would post it here in case anybody else was wondering.

The breakdown is:

Total shows through 2/28/2010: 209
UFO/ET shows : 156 (74.64%)
Afterlife/Ghost shows : 14 (6.7%)
Other shows : 39 (18.66%)

Personally, I would not mind 100% UFO/ET, but I was pleased with 75%. I hope it stays at least that high in the future.

I have attached the spreadsheet I used (OpenOffice format) and a chart.

Thats actually rather interesting, Also goes to show the Paracast is a UFO topic show. But it is nice to have a change of subject matter once in a while, which we can clearly see in the above chart!

Nice work.

I wish ufos were around 30-40% of the shows. I'm still interested in ufos and will of course continue to check out the show but I'm also interested in things like poltergeists, cryptozoology, (non ufo related) conspiracy theory, afterlife research, etc. Given Genes background and some of Davids experiences it's understandable that the show is so heavily weighted in the direction of ufology. Also, I think I'm probably in the minority when it comes to wanting to hear more non-ufo related shows.

It's really all about the guests and their availability when we consider scheduling new episodes. This has always been a guest-driven show, and, yes, I know more people in the UFO field. But I want to learn too and we'll consider loads of possibilities.

I think a good mix of subjects is necessary to keep a show fresh, and avoid repetition. The UFO stuff can get stale - take the Aztec episode this week. There was nothing new there - just the same story that's been told by Scott for almost a decade now, and by others for over fifty years.

There's a lot of interesting stuff happening beyond the narrow borders of the UFO subject. Ghosts / poltergeists is the most obvious one, given the popularity of ghost-related programming, but there's also remote viewing, psychic phenomena (psi), cryptozoology, near death experiences (Skeptiko has has some great episodes on that fascinating subject)... and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I think David's departure opens the door for a new approach to The Paracast for Gene (and that's not meant as a criticism of David in any way), to explore different subjects more often. I'm happy to say that the upcoming episode with Dave Sadler and Steve Mera is one of those shows - UFOs pop up in the conversation, but the best stuff relates to ghosts and some amazing poltergeist encounters.

Just to make sure everyone understands, I did not mean to be at all critical or to spark any type of suggestions to change the way the show is done. I simply shared something I was doing for my own benefit, thinking some may find it interesting. That's all.

I love the show and listen to all episodes regardless of content. The Paranormal world is a wonderful place to spend some brain time. There are so many unanswered things out there -- things that suggest our world is much, much bigger and more complex than what we realize.

I do prefer the UFO episodes myself, probably out of selfish reasons. Yes, I would like to hear some new information or new sightings. I hope that will happen.

Thanks for the input, Paul -- your opinion obviously carries a lot of weight.

Once again, I would recommend having Thomas Campbell on as a guest. Campbell is a physicist (currently working at NASA) who was one of the founders of the Monroe Institute (referred to as TC in Bob Monroe's books). He has had a multitude of induced out-of-body experiences during the course of several decades, and has formulated his views of 'reality' based upon what he has uncovered (his "Theory of Everything", as he calls it). He comes across as a sober, serious-minded individual who adheres to the scientific method and is focused on actual experience. His views of reality (multi-dimensionality, etc.) tie nicely into numerous paranormal phenomena, including potentially UFOs, poltergeists, remote viewing, etc. in addition to the overarching question of what 'this' is all about. Having followed the dialogue on this forum for months now, he would be an extremely interesting guest whom the listeners would genuinely appreciate.

I'm working with various guest co-hosts on future shows. A lot of possibilities are being considered. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would love to see Cryptozoologist Adam Davies on the show some time soon. I'm also more than happy with the UFO conundrum being the bulk of the show topics, but this guy really might be onto something .
Nick Redfern knows Adam, and has interviewed him for his blog I believe.
With the success of shows like Monsterquest , I think this would be a great topic to embrace .

Adam regularly embarks on trips all around the world in search of strange creatures and wrote a very enjoyable book on what it takes to embark on such a quest :

Here's some snippets on Mr Davies who has in the past found hairs of an unknown animal species in Asia and plans to go back there :
