Paranormal Adept
This isn't paranormal and it isn't attacking religion or politics or yo momma. So, relax and forgive me if I'm being over indulgent here. But, I have a question or two. I have been posting here for a few years now. I use alot of " " and :) and tend to over use the quotes and emotions according to some. So, is it that irritating to use the little quotation marks and silly faces? I'll stop if it is. I use them to try and make my point clearer. But, I've noticed a poster or two say it's distracting. Anyway, with all the vile and mudslinging and cursing that went on waaay to long on a couple of threads here. I thought I'd post something that was a little flippant and yet still informative. As they say on radio talk shows. "I'll hang up and listen."

Gosh, Tyder, I hope you weren't referring to me in my review of Stephen Cave's book on another thread!:) I just pointed out sort of self consciously that as a guy of sixty I felt a bit juvenile using one of those faces to express what I felt about the book (tongue in cheek), but that I enjoyed using them and, to answer your question above from my perspective: I think the faces when writing can be and are used to soften stuff because what comes out in words sometimes is a bit different than the actual expression those words may imply, if I'm making sense. I like the faces, and used them with my elementary students. I taught the little kids for a long, long time, too! You're never too old to use smiley faces. Kim

That would have been me about silly faces. Yes, I have made comments to the effect that I hate  emoticons. It is a matter of personal choice  whether you want to convey meaning through words or pictures. ;) I'm amazed that you've even given it a second thought. :p

It must have been some other cranky bastard going on about the "quotation marks" though.
