Wow, brave new world. I'm honestly wondering if we will even be the same "species" the way technology is growing. Do you ever wonder just what it really means to be human? Will we come to a place where we don't need a body? I'm talking about just downloading our consciousness into some kind of virtual program or world. Weird stuff but some of yesterdays sci fi is today's technology.

Ive long held an interest in sci fi tech as it translates to modern applications.
One aspect i find amusing, is the extrapolation of whats to come is often blinkered by the expectation of the day.
For example Star treks communicators were audio only, TV's and Cameras were huge in those days, chock full of glass valves etc, yet today the modern mobile has a colour screen

Space1999 went one step further and its com device the comlock did include a TV screen, but it was only black and white, again the technology for miniature colour screens just wasnt around.

It seems so dated to watch an episode and see the B&W screen knowing todays devices are smaller with colour screens.

The biotech potential is huge, I often wonder if its a common course for any sentient species to start using, then changing the nature of the tools , until the tools themselves change the creator.

In our own history from the moment we started creating flint tools, we seem to be on a path where we go from making tools, to a point where the tools are making us.

This one caught my eye yesterday

Mind-reading program translates brain activity into words | Science | The Guardian

We often hear accounts of aliens speaking "inside" the heads of witness's and use words like telepathy, perhaps its just technology though. it wont be long before the science in the article above can work both ways

I heard the same story, in fact it was on a radio program and the computer even had audio of the 'echo's' of the thought. It was someone's brain thinking of a word. It degraded quickly with a few iterations and I personally found it both fascinating but also scary, or maybe more awe-inspiring. To get recognisable audio from a brain's thoughts is stunning but weird.
Instead of appreciating the tech and the human brain, for some reason I could not get the thought out of my head that soon we may be hearing a computer 'think', and I don't mean audio of the processess a computer goes through to do a task, but more that the closer we get to true AI we may soon actually be hearing a machine 'think' and will start to anthropomorphise this AI machine - shit, soon I will feel guilty turning off a laptop.

I'm afraid Dave............I'm..............DAISY, DAISY, GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER DO....!! haha.

The report on audio mind reading really blew me away. Gives new meaning to the expression "don't even think about it."

Oh well, we're all just collections of skin and DNA anyway. Why not have fun rearranging it? (As long as it's someone else's skin and DNA.)

The whole ET telepathy thing always makes me go back to quantum entanglement. If particles can be twinned and the action on one instantaneously affecting the other, regardless of distance, then I have to wonder if this cannot be somehow involved?
