Sorry, no humans to the Moon or Mars

A couple of things strike me about this. We HAVE the technology and know how to get to the moon and Mars. We have the personnel- the engineers, the scientists, the physicists, the astronauts, etc. We have all the raw materials we need in order to accomplish such feats. And we have the will, the spirit, and the courage.

But, .... the money. It is a sad, and unfortunate neccesity, that some abstract concept such as money should stand in the way of truly exploring our own neighborhood. I don't see any way around it, but our own methods of compensation and reward can completely suffocate the advancement of our species. Sigh... Maybe we'll somehow find the money. Jesus, can't we just charge it??

I think the economic climate is a big barrier to this. While throwing a load of money at nasa would create a lot of jobs in the process, unless they look at it as a long term strategy then those jobs would disappear within a few years.

It is sad though to see it in this half way house, where they have enough money to get by and make less acknowledged achivements (compared to the moon landing i mean), but not anywhere near enough money to do things that would really inspire the hearts & minds of the man on the street.

Where there is a will there is a way.

There is no will... and according to young earth creationists (YEC) the world was created 6000 years ago :D

Please ! .....leave space exploration to the Japanese, Chinese or Indians. I think they're on the right track LOL

Nasa's budget is truly pathetic compared to what it should be IMO. Should easily be 10 times what it is now.

Doesn't matter what political party is in office, ever since we went to the moon progress has slowed to a crawl.

This government blows so much fucking taxpayer money on wasteful programs.. it really makes me mad to see our space and science funding languish.

But one thing I'd like to point out is that according to guys like Burt Rutan, NASA and the US government have been very unhelpful in opening up rules and regulations to allow the privatization of space. I think NASA sees it as "theirs" and wants to keep control of space under their own auspices.

how about we take back the 24 trillion dollars from the banksters and give nasa a billion or 2? it is our money anyway. we should get to decide where it goes.
i think it would be cool to put man on mars.

perhaps the best way to ensure space is explored with access to all is to develop one site on the planet, with the best and brightest from each country given the opportunity to work there.

It would be open to UN member countries and each nation's budget would have a MUST pay section, and this comes from a special tax levied against the population of those countries, make it something minimal, perhaps 5 cents for every 10 dollars of income -whether that figure is realistic in some impoverished countries or not, I have no idea, so that would need tweaking to fit the economic profile of each nation - and that money be placed under the control of an administrator elected by the workers in that thinktank.

Rotating the administration would make it very hard for special interest groups to have ongoing influence on the projects.

In any case, it is about time we stopped thinking in an 'us and them' pattern when it comes to our exploration of the space around us. We can do a lot more together than we can in bits and pieces.

and yes, it is really past time to come up with a reward system other than money as the be all and end all of our achievements as individuals.

I agree AnnetteMarie. If we can't come together as one on this type of project, it won't be a successful venture.
