Space Shuttle UFO escort?

Paranormal Novice
Hi Gene & Chris, (sorry, I'm new here & I posted this in the wrong section)

I've been a long time listener, like 2006 and I've finally got the nerve to join the forums. Love the show and I really think that the show has taken great strides, especially since Chris has come one board. Not to say I didn't like it when it was David was the co-host, but i think it is just a lot more productive.

Nevertheless, the reason I'm posting is because back in May I saw an interesting artifact on the NASA pic of the day web site that still seems pretty interesting to me and I would like some feed back from others.

To preface this pdf that I'm posting: I'm a graphic designer and there is a slight adjustment I did to the Green channel, as in RGB, to see more of the detail of the image, no manipulation at all.

In the pdf, the first page is a print of the web page with the date it was originally posted with a description. The second page is just a closer look of the image. Then the third page is the Green channel and you can clearly see something of a cigar shape that looks like it is trailing the Space Shuttle on the left hand side.

I've heard before that there have been ufos seen during launches before, so I jumped to the conclusion that's what it was. However, if anyone else has a better way of getting some detail from the image than that, or knows that in fact it was a regular aircraft escorting the Shuttle to it's final destination feel free to clarify the matter to me. Otherwise I think I've found a possible NASA slip up, or intentional display of the fact.

Thoughts?

Thanks, and keep up the great work!
jim

Hey nazig, welcome to the forum. The object in question looks to me like another airliner in distance heading away and making a slight left banking turn. This would not qualify as a UFO because objects that appear to be aircraft, or even aircraft like, especially in the vicinity of airports, do not fall under the definition of UFO as set out by USAF AFR-202 Feb 05, 1958 ( the most comprehensive definition by the people who created the word ), better modern dictionary definitions, or ufologists that recognize the validity of the explanation and definition of UFO provided here.

I hope you stick around because we could always use some help from a graphics person who can enhance video or photographic images for a better look.

Agreed Ufology it looks to be another aircraft.

at first I thought it may have been an escort fighter but after a better look I think you have the right idea.

Hey welcome and it's always great to see someone posting for the first time and bringing something to the table to! So good on you man. It's good to have more people who know about image processing etc as it's a major problem (faking) but also a great tool to improve bad images.

I'll let you know what I think - but I know this - you should have been here years ago (like me, I've been here about a year)

That's good insight, but I still think that you would see just a the slightest bit of a tail fin, even just one pixel big, something. But there seems to be a disturbance below the craft.

Maybe you're not looking at it in the same way as I am because when I zoom in on it I can see a tail section fairly easily. It is on the right hand side of the white line. The aircraft is heading away and to the left in a slight turn from the camera, so the white line extending from the tail toward the left is the fuselage, which ends at the front of the aircraft, and on either side you can make out the trace of a wing and possibly exhaust. I've looked at so many airplanes and photos that maybe I have an easier time seeing this stuff. Mind you, it's not really super detailed either, so it could be something else, but I doubt it.

BTW, it's OK to post this stuff on the thread you created. No need to send it as a private message.

On the last sentence, I thinkI hit the wrong button. Still getting used to the Forum.

Yeah, I do actually see a slight something now that you say it. I guess as a designer I'm used to high res stuff.

If it's a plane it is banking to the left about 30 deg but it's too pixelated to be sure either way.

It should be possible to find the exact time the shuttle was there and then check flights from the nearby airports and flightpaths to rule in/out commercial planes?
