First of all, nice to see Stan in a debate sponsored by a whiskey brand, even if it`s not a very good one. :D

However, I think it says something about his "opponent" that she somehow managed to win two state debating titles in Virginia. Hmm... actually, I think it says more about the dearth of quality debaters in Virginia.

I may not always agree with Stan, but... I admire his good grace and sense of humour when faced with morons like Jen Dziura, whom I challenge to explain the 1957 RB47 case (and then move on to the 1976 Tehran case, and so forth...).

Actually, I would be satisfied if she just showed up for a debate like this having read one major report on the subject.

I think you were being kind to Jen Dziura, Paul!:) At the risk of creating an Ad Hominem alliance, I agree, a moron!;) (which i believe maybe #10 on the "list").
Although heavily edited, her responses to Stanton's assertions were, at the very least, less than stellar. (I think she may have included #5 in one of her responses).
Pointedly I notice that both their glasses were devoid of the sponsors amplifying nectar although the bloke who sarcastically described the movie Independance Day as a documentary probably had imbibed a more than a few shots of the inglorious Dewars before unleashing that gem on an almost incredulous Mr Friedman.

Well... He's got brains and she's got... legs!

So I'm not quite sure where I stand...

I'll watch it again ... just to make up my mind.

Calling her a moron is quite harsh. She brought up decent points, but in the end it's always the same old arguments. The truth is, we really can't say without a shadow of a doubt that aliens are visiting us.
I must say though, that I didn't catch any logical fallacies in Stanton's clips, but Dziura's pixie-dust thing was a total straw man.

I looked her up: Jennifer Dziura.com

She seems to actually have a good head on her shoulders. However, if I debated her about video games I'd probably make her look foolish. We have to remember, she's not an expert in UFOs, Stanton is.

I note that the tolerance for ad hominem attacks is rather more robust here.

For some reason...

What can that reason be?

I hope Don or Phil (Pair or Cats) don't see the above, Paul, because they are SURE to be offended...

Oh, wait.

Lance

Ad hominem attacks are a-okay if you don't agree with the person. Learn the rules Lance. :)

So why was she debating with Stanton, if she done no research? Wasn't her Argument supposed to be in opposition to Stanton's!! What is an expert on UFO's.. One or two days reading you learn enough if your open minded to it.

You do realize she's a stand up comic right?

The website is just a biopic of her. What am i looking for, that will answer my question. Please enlighten me to your thoughts?

I have no thoughts about this really. She's a comedian. She was there to get publicity, She probably doesn't care about aliens and UFOs, which is pretty much where I'm headed more and more. The more I think about it, the more absurd it becomes.

Nice photos. I like the Wonder Women outfit the best.

Thanks for posting the video Paul.

Seriously. She's a nice looking lady, and smart too. Seems a little too know it all for my taste though.

I call 'em like I see 'em, and never apologize for calling a moron a moron. And judging by what I saw in this video, she's a moron. As a former national championship debater here in Canada, I'm always offended when anyone who claims to be a debater doesn't even bother to do the basic research required to talk intelligently about a subject. Those types of people are morons.

That was the worst editing job of a debate I've ever seen. I would prefer to see the debate in it's entirety rather than snippets of it which make Stanton look, well, a bit eccentric and off kilter.

You learn enough in 2 or 3 days to debate Stanton Friedman on UFO's? Dude, your not supposed to drink the bong water! She was ill prepared inthe whole 5 minute clip we saw, that was obvious. But I want to know who the crowd thought won the debate.

Paul do you know what the date was when this took place?

Why go into a debate if you nothing about the subject you are debating? Especially when you are a so called debating champion. That's just the height of arrogance and ignorance, typical of the sceptodebunker mentality. She must have thought " Oh it's just good old Stan Friedman, this will be a walkover for me!". Instead she came off looking like a fool.

I'm offended that you're offended, mechanicalbug.

Perhaps those in attendance at the debate were better able to understand its context -- a less than serious gathering organized by a liquor company. Dewars approached a recent Dartmouth grad turned comedian willing to show some leg (quite an odd combination already at that point) and sat her down with our man Stan to see what would pop out of the box. The clown asking the question about Independence Day sealed it for me.

Are you serious? She did it for fun and for publicity. I don't know how Stanton felt about the whole thing, but he looked like he had a good time. It's good publicity for him too. And she probably got paid for it too.
