Nothin' to see here
These are impressive to say the least. The latest from a company called CryTek. When I look at screenshots like this I cant help but think that in 20yrs time when we have true virtual reality and digital worlds exponentially more realistic than whats in these images, the idea that we can 'jack into the Matrix' will be a reality.

The idea that were living in a simulated 'digital world' of our own seems like less of thought experiment and more of a possibility IMO. Just think where we will be in 100yrs (assuming no disasters). I bet we could easily immerse ourselves in a digital world that looks every bit as real as the 'real world'.

there are a number of screenshots some of which highlight the detail thats available in the experience

one of my favourite maps in another game, is built from actual mars lander footage and is like being there

yep. These shots are from the latest build of the Cry engine used in those games. Gorgeous stuff.

Now if I could just get myself a PC that might be able to handle the engine :(

actually purchased a high performance monster PC just to run Crysis, or rather the crysis engine, which i want for the MWLL mod , one of my favourite moments was like a scene from predator, i had a chain gun, and was "mowing" down trees and shrubbery, a great many of the environmental objects are interactive.
its a good thing its only virtual, or me deforestation sprees would be crimes against humanity
