Extraterrestrial contact seminars land Greer in federal court | Openminds.tv

SGreer.jpgSteven Greer, founder of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI), has been charged “in connection with allegedly operating a commercial venture on a national wildlife refuge,” according to the Outer Banks Sentinel, and is scheduled to appear before the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina next month.

Greer has been leading “ambassador” training courses for nearly a decade, which are week-long intensive courses designed to prepare individuals for making peaceful contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. These training courses have been held at a national wildlife refuge in North Carolina for the past four years. And because of this, Greer is being charged with the “operation of a commercial enterprise on a national wildlife refuge, trespassing on a national wildlife refuge, and violation of ‘daylight use only’ regulation which prohibits all nighttime activities on Pea Island except fishing.”

No permit was obtained by Greer or CSETI to conduct business on the wildlife refuge. But as a spokeswoman from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service told the Outer Banks Sentinel, “We don’t allow/would not permit non-wildlife dependent commercial recreational activities – thus would not likely issue a permit for a UFO program – commercial or otherwise.”

Oops, Greer must of screwed the pooch, or figured that they must know who he is!

IMO, Greer has long used credible people to feather his nest and bring disrepute to UFOlogy. I can't say I feel too sorry for him.

Haha!

I wonder if he could successfully plead insanity. It will sound insane anyways:

"For what purpose were you using the park?"

"To contact the aliens that visit me on these trips I take. I am a human ambassador to the aliens....."

He's a shiester is what he is.

Praying (!) for a conviction, hefty fine and jail time.

Sadly, I doubt he will face little more than a fine. Probably one directly proportional to the amount of revenue they determined to be generated from his "ambassador training courses" (lol).

Although, maybe if they know who he is they will just burn him for being a clown-- much like arresting Al Capone for tax evasion when pinning him for murder proved too difficult. We can always hope.

EDIT: LOL "The cost was approximately $1,000 per person to register, plus the cost of reading materials required. However, that cost doesn't include travel expenses, lodging and meals... Foch confirmed at that time that the program had been held on the Outer Banks for the past four years and that a total of 30 to 40 participants and staff attended each session." (Here's the article)

Making a quick $40K every year for walking some idiots out into the woods and making a bunch of insane claims doesn't seem to shabby.

Much as i dislike greer, and agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments expressed re ripping people off and discrediting UFO research, this does seem a little draconian on the Govts part.
Nationl parks are there for everyone, as long as you abide by the rules designed to conserve them people should be free to use them.
Had these sessions been free, there would be no issue, so the issue seems to be about his making money.
I guess free enterprise is dead.
I cant help thinking if i were to use my local knowledge of the national park near me to organise and take groups camping for a fee, i would feel pretty shirty if the state govt bought the ban hammer down on me, as long as i pay my taxes and am not stealing customers from a similar govt run venture, as long as we are careful not to destroy the bush, carting out everything we cart in and leaving it as we found it i dont see that it would be any of their business.

I dont like that greer rips people off, but thats Caveat emptor .

Greer has some real try hard fans as well, a lot of ignorant people does he seem to attract a lot of ageist middle aged men? seems the case with one person I met He seems to think at 22 I cant be more wise then a middle aged men as seen here http://www.facebook.com/#!/maureen.openminds/posts/176694325721323?notif_t=share_reply Im not looking to start a debate or arugment My views expressed are a bit silly if I look back on them but its how I feel. My name is luke by the way

I don't know anything about Greer and his business, but from a government perspective it's a lot easier to just have a blanket ban on private business in public parks than it is to always be explaining in court why one business was allowed and not another. We run into the same kinds of issues in our homeowners' association. Even if a rule violation looks harmless it has be dealt with or you open yourself to all sorts of problems.

Having watched Greer and Company for at least 20 years my take on it is this .. Greer is a "cult" leader and his group is a cult with passive followers. One does not question the "leader", just shut up and keep sending the "love offerings" forward.

There, I think that pretty much sums it up.

Ooo Rah!

I'm daydreaming a vision of two giant moths taking him away and bursting through the ceiling while 'Take My Breath Away' is playing, all in strobe light.

Honestly, since 2001 this man has done far far far more wrong than good to his 'alleged goal'.

They have to pursue any violation that comes to their attention, or they could be open to allegations that they haven't done their legal duty or are only enforcing rules selectively. Either of which could land them in court -- as defendants.

Gotta love the bureaucracy ... don't they have anything better to do? I bet they have commercial tours running through the same location that don't get bothered at all.

They probably do; but 'probably' with permits.

Has there ever been a poster on this site who has taken Greer's course. I was wondering whether, besides the very outstanding certificate of participation you would earn, does (or did) his course have any redeeming qualities and tools that could be used in everyday life?

lol. Don't apoligize for being young. Yeah, your views will keep evolving (mine still do and I'm over 50) Seems kind of odd that he started to name call himself or at least make remarks about Australia and the U.K. Anyway, you will find that people will pick at anything (age, education, place of birth, race, gender,) when it comes to arguing. :-)

Peace,
Steve
