Strange Painting

I have some friends that own a resale shop. The last time I visited they gave me a painting that they said "made them think of me." I guess because I'm a painter, but I kinda think the thing just gave them the creeps and they wanted it gone. There is no signature. I didn't think about it until now, but I think that was around the time some weird stuff started happening around here. Does the imagery here mean anything to anybody?

I dont no what it is trying to say.I dont know, if that is a bull in the right hand corner, but Some, star signs, have animals as there there symbols. Taurus is the bull, The Ram and Bull are sometimes seen in Egyptian paintings of Astronomy. That is far all i can say, the painting could be of anything really.

Looks abit like theres a female supremacy thing going on.

A bull sitting behind her, she has got its horns and she has the key (power).

Plus her vagina i pulsing with light almost like its saying i am woman, hear me roar! (or what ever it is they say):)

Its the Goddess and the Bull I think. An archetypal Goddess figure. I believe Jung talked about it. Cant tell you much more but I know much has been written about it by various cultures. Not scarey atall.:)

Cool it male hormones, take a cold shower!

It's a piece of art deco schlock. Core themes are feminism, power and dominance but it's hokey, like something I might have seen back in grade 12 from some girl trying desperately to paint something "meaningful".

Bleh.

Looks like it has Spanish influences,(the bulls). Has that late 50's early 60's style to it as well. I'm sure if you posted it on an art forum you'd get the painter ID.

What's the significance of the key? She seem's to be transfixed by it.

Reminds me very much of "The High Preistess", the second or third card, depending on your thoughts of the Fool, in the Thoth Tarot deck. Courtesy or perhaps more accurately cursedby Lady Freida Harris with instructions from Aleister Crowley.

Undoubtedly very beautiful cards but so cleverly loaded with archetypal symbolism
that it is all too easy to be drawn in. They are in my opinion one of the most diabolical creations ever put together, right up there Ouija boards.

Think whatever you like about I have to say, but I will add that these cards can
and do open up the viewer to some incredibly malevolent forces. Our family has unfortunately suffered such consequences in the form of suicide directly attributable to there use.

So if you fancy dabbling be prepared for a WORLD OF HURT.

I've got the Thoth set, but I have never attempted to use it for divination. I just thought they were beautiful art. I have spent hours looking at them, but I guess I'm just too lazy to actually study the symbolism.
One of the things I find interesting in the painting above is that there appears to be two suns. One in her breast and one in her hand. I recall reading somewhere about the occult concept of the 'hidden sun.' Perhaps this dark goddess holds the key to the hidden sun in her fiery womb?
I believe the bull, which is obviously in submission, is a symbol of elemental earth.
Lilith?

I woulsn't put it on my wall - it's an ugly piece of work.
My walls are covered with surreal paintings, some of them on the nightmarish side, and this one just blended in with the mix. It's weird how long it has been hanging, about a year, without my giving it a second thought. Just the other day, though, I caught a bad vibe off the thing and took it down.

Wow, this IS a pretty cool painting, in my opinion. I agree it has a bit of a Crowley look to it. The bull usually symbolizes power and tenacity and is both a solar AND a lunar symbol. This is curious as the nipples are the sun and moon as well. I find it curious that it almost looks like a feminine bull ramming a more male looking bull in the upper right corner as well. Of course, it's hard to make out. It's also curious that in the right hand is the sun, and instead of the usual theme of the moon opposite, there is a key in the left hand. Interestingly, if I remember correctly, the right hand symbolizes compassion and mercy while the left is justice and judgement. Even weirder, in olden days, wasn't being left handed associated with evil/Satan? Anyway, I too see the whole inflamed inverted pyramid. While this could be some sort of feminine innuendo, it could have to do with the idea that pyramids point to the sky to point to the source of power, the heavens. By inverting it, you would be implying that the power comes from below (earth, maybe even further down?) Then add in the whole bull/ram animalistic nature of the female figure... perhaps it means the Satan character, or perhaps it's some sort of pagan, earthly goddess figure.

Either way, it's an extremely interesting painting and a little creepy for sure. Being an artist myself, I tend to believe there is some sort of channeling that goes on when you really nail a piece of artwork. Whether it be tapping into your groove, your subconscious, some other consciousness/spirit/???, I think the best pieces tap into something outside of your usual conscious mind. So, whether the artist just tried to make something weird or not, I think they wound up doing something far more than just "a random weird looking falsely meaningful something" whether they meant to or not.

Do you mind if I twitter a link to the image?
