Strange Water Experience

About 5 to 6 years ago a bunch of us went on a fishing boat off of Cape Hatteras, NC. It was a all day fishing boat and we were about 100 to 150 miles out about 3-4 hrs into our trip. At this time we were trolling along some weed lines for Mahi-Mahi when we came across a strange water experience. From a distance we could see the water was a differant color in the shape of large circles. There must have been at least a dozen in this area and they were about 100-150 feet across each. The water in these areas were a turcoise blue color which in not common to see this far north in water that is over 2000 ft deep out in the gulf stream. This color of water would be very similiar with what you would see in the Florida keys. We were in a boat that was about 50 ft across so as we crossed over these circles you could see the turcoise water on all sides of the boat at times. I asked the Captain of the boat if he had ever seen anything like this before and he said he had never seen anything like this in his 30+ years of fishing these waters. The strange thing about these circles was that there was a very strong odor of a dead fish smell but yet there were no dead fish that we could see. The water in these circles also had large bubbles come up in them. I just was wondering has anyone else ever experienced anything like this and if so do they have any ideas what it might have been. I did video tape the experience but have yet to convert it off of tape to a digital file.

looking forward to seeing it. I'm not a marine expert, but could it have been underwater volcanic activity?

My first guess would be trapped gas pockets erupting through the ocean floor. You may have gotten farted on by the planet.

I don't want to throw any cold water on this :) but I've spent months at a time on a troller in the Gulf of Alaska and many dozens of hours on the waters of Puget Sound. What you are describing does not seem to me to be all that unusual. Many, many times I have seen 'round areas' of differing color. Often they are also 'flat water' in the middle of an area of more disturbance. I've always attributed this to currents, eddies, wakes, seaweed islands, temperature inversions--that sort of thing. Of course, I'm not sure I saw what you saw, but the description as written certainly can be applied to what I saw.

You should seriously check out Carl Feindt's work on submerged UFO's
So should anybody else on this forum.
His observations of water and UFO's interacting have allowed him to postulate some theories on the fields that surround UFO's and how they can be directed to attract and repel,(this might explain the bubbles), or move at high speeds without sonic booms.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to sift through everything. Where is the reference to "no sonic booms"?

Thanks.

I appreciate the feedback. At the time we saw it we thought it may have been a large group of fish feeding on the bait fish in the weed lines because of the strong fishy smell (but there were no fish that we saw). I like the theory of the gas being released from the earth but how do you explain the fishy smell? I have not read anything that explains that type of smell, normally it would be a sulfer type smell. (It may have been the whales farting though, lol)

A release of methane hydrate from the ocean floor?
